Steps on Personal of Letters of introduction
● Use a familiar contact. If you have an 'in' within that workplace,
don't hesitate to use him. Make sure to add the name and department where the
person works.
● Let the reader know that you have some experience. Include any highlights
that you want to mention or what you have learned.
● Include your education. You worked for that education. Make sure your
potential employer knows about it.
● Mention why you want to work for that particular place.
●State your intent. Let the reader know what you have to offer and what you
plan on doing in that environment.
●Conclude with a creative and respectful goodbye. This is just another way
to stand out and show your personality.
●Keep
the letter conversational. Let the reader know that you are more than
.
just a letter. Always have a certain level of professionalism, but show you are a
unique individual
● Give your address, telephone number.

Tips on Business of Letters of introduction
● Your letter should be well thought out as this will be your vehicle for
making a powerful, and hopefully positive, first impression.
● A good letter of introduction needs to be brief, friendly and
personalized to the specific person you wish to contact.
● In most cases the sender wishes to create some sort of partnership
with the recipient. Therefore, you are well advised to be highly respectful of
the recipient's possible time restraints.
● Make it easy for the recipient to say yes to your offer. Make it easy
for the recipient to see the mutual advantage of meeting with you to
discuss your proposal in greater detail.

Dear Li Yue,
I’m sorry to hear how you suffered during the "5.12"earthquake. I heard your story on TV.
After being buried in the ruins for over 70 hours, you stuck to your dream of dancing and
waited to be rescued. I can understand how hard it was for you to overcome both the
fear and the pain both mentally and physically. Your enduring spirits won in the end. It’s
unfortunate that you lost your left leg in the earthquake and I’m sure you must feel
terrible about it, although I am sure you will achieve your dream all the same. As the old

come true someday and I will always be with you. Best regards.

Job Application Letters & Resumes
When applying for employment by mail a job application letter must
accompany your resume. Often times an employer may be flooded by
perhaps a stack of or more resumes on any given day. In such situations,
getting an interview can represent a major break-through for the job
applicant. The job application letter you write can and should be used to
substitute for that all-important interview that you may not otherwise get,
regardless of your qualification.
A Job Application letter must be pleasing to the eye----not cramped and
crowded-looking. It must be easy and quick to read.
Format is even more important in a resume, because it has to present a
lot of information in a easy-to-read form, leave the reader feeling good about
the writer, and t on one page.

As a recent graduate with a major in Psychology, I have taken numerous classes on childhood development and human

Memos and Notices
Memos aim to solve problems. Memos solve problems either by
informing the reader about new information, like policy changes, price
increases, etc, or by persuading the reader to take an action, such as attend
a meeting, use less paper, or change a current production procedure.
Regardless of the specific goal, memos are most effective when they
connect the purpose of the writer with the interests and needs of the reader.
The purpose of a notice is often to give information briefly and quickly.
The message can be about almost anything: warnings, apologies, changes
of plan, temporary address changes and instructions. Whatever the
purpose, the main aim of a notice is to make it possible for a reader to follow
the message quickly and with complete understanding .It may be written on
a blackboard or bulletin board or written as a memo delivered to the desk of
officials .

Business Letters
A business letter is a letter written in formal language, usually used when writing from
one business organization to another, or for correspondence between such organizations and
their customers, clients and other external parties. The overall style of letter will depend on
the relationship between the parties concerned. Inquiries and Replies are one part of the
business letters.
In foreign trade, a letter of inquiry or enquiry is that the buyers or sellers want to ask
information about the commodities they’d like to purchase or sell. So inquiry is the start of a
trade or transaction. It involves:
A general inquiry: a catalogue, a price-list or quotation sheets, a sample, illustrated photo
prints etc.
A specific inquiry: the name of the commodity, the specification, the quantity, the unit
price FOB… CIF…, the time of shipment, the terms of payment etc.

As we know, other big companies have such policies and our present policies have been

formulate and practice policies by the end of this year.
We would like to present these preliminary recommendations for your consideration:\

We have some good options. We could do nothing, but productivity might go down if one group

office for non-smokers. What do you think about this? We would have to build the office within our
existing space. Also, a ventilation system could be expensive. A second good option is that we
could make a no-smoking rule. People could smoke outside, and we could set up a special space

As you know, we have employees from five different countries at this facility. They are really

people smoking in the office. They say that it is harmful to their health.
Employees should feel that their opinions are important. I recommend that we have employees
work out the solution to this problem. It might be illegal to smoke in Ireland. However, if they all
have input into the decision, everyone will probably accept it.

Proposal for Improving Customer Services
China’s market economy has been getting more mature gradually, more attention should be
paid to customer service if companies want to maintain sustainable development. It is true of
our company, too. Therefore, I’d like to put forward a proposal in this regard.
First of all, our company should strengthen the customer relations department and improve our
ways of handling customers’ complaints. Many cases from large and small companies have
proved repeatedly that goodwill towards all customers will reap tangible rewards in the form of
increased profits for business. We should expand more resources including time, effort and
money in dealing with customers’ complaints and demands, studying their needs and treating
them as though they were members of our own families.
Secondly, we should improve our after-sale service as well, which is directly linked with the
increase of sales volume and sales income. What is more important is that good after-sales
service plays a decisive role in keeping our existing customers and attracting new ones. That’s
why we should train our employees to serve the customers better and try their best to satisfy
customers’ needs and demands.
Last but not least, it is suggested that our company adopt the policy that “The customer is
always right”. Only in this way can we help our company increase sales and profits and
maintain sustainable development as long as we keep our existing customers and always
attract new ones.

Sales and Marketing Letters
Sales Marketing letters belong to simple but effective persuasive
messages in business communication. Their common purpose is to buy and
use your products or service. Although the two terms are often used
interchangeably, they do represent separate but related efforts: Marketing
letters usher potential buyers through the purchasing without asking them
to make an immediate decision.
Sales Marketing letters play an important part in the sales process.
Some of the functions include identifying new prospects, responding to
inquiries, following up on sales calls, acknowledging an order, problem
solving and getting repeat business.

Strategies for Sales and Marketing Letters
Attention: the letter must get the reader's attention with a hard-hitting lead
paragraph that goes straight to the point or offers an element of intrigue. A sales
letter must capture the reader's attention immediately or it won't get read.
Interest :you want to hook the reader's interest.
Desire: The letter should create a desire. The desire to eliminate or minimize the
potential for future loss or the desire to gain something (prestige, more time,
more profits, etc.).
Action: Last but most important, your sales piece must have a call to action. You
must ask your customer to do the action that you want, weather it is to buy or to

Turn off Your Mobile Phone
Thanks to the development of information technology and reduced price of
communication devices, the mobile phone has become a necessity for most
people. Obviously, it shortens the distance between people and makes our life
more convenient. The mobile phone has made it easier for us to contact or be
reached by other people anytime and anywhere. We will never miss any
important meetings, great deals or admirable opportunities.
But have you noticed sometimes the mobile phone also brings embarrassment
to us? It’s not rare to see someone shout loudly in public when using the mobile
phone. And I’m sure most people have had such an experience that mobile phone
ring continuously on a formal occasion. Perhaps these people have many “lifeand-death” issues to keep the phone working at all times, but it bothers the other
people.
So if you are one of them, please shut off your mobile phone in public,
especially on a quiet and serious occasion.

Marriage of Students On-campus
The government’s allowance that college students may get married triggers a
controversial debate: is it sensible to legalize on-campus marriage? Some people
welcome this new development, while others have expressed their concern about it.
Those who take sides against this new trend believe that married students will
inevitably have less time and energy for their academic life because they have more
real-life problems to deal with than those unmarried ones.
One common argument, however, for on-campus students’ marriage is that a
number of students do have a desire for an ideal marriage. Now that they have come
of age, they are entitled to such happiness.
I’m in favor of the former. On-campus students are laden with academic tasks. If
they get married now, they have to work much harder than any other student because
they have to solve their financial problems at the same time.

Dear Li Ming,
You have asked for my advice concerning whether you should find a decent job or pursue
graduate study after graduation, and I will try to make some useful suggestions.
We are in a real dilemma when faced with such alternatives. True, attending graduate schools
has become a trend in recent years. Enrollment in graduate schools exploded recently.
People have a growing respect for graduate study. I would recommend that you further your
study. I am fully convinced that you have every reason to make this decision in such an era
when knowledge is expanding at an incredible speed and the demands for us to enrich both
our knowledge and survival ski8lls in this highly competitive society are becoming
increasingly urgent. There is no doubt that you could sharpen your competitive edge by
making this sensible choice. Keep on learning and you will never regret.
With best wishes!
Yours Sincerely,
Jack

Changing Modes of Transport
According to the bar graph, there are many dramatic changes in the use of transport from
1950 to 1990.
The use of cars increased significantly from 1950 to 1990. In 1950, only a few people
drove to work. But in 1970 about one quarter of the people owned a car. By 1990, the
number of people who went to work by a car jumped to over 40 %.
During the same period, there were gradual decline in the use of bicycle and on foot. In
1950, more than half of the people were cycling or walking to work. In 1970, the cyclists
and the pedestrians still occupied over 35%. But in 1990, the number of these people
decreased to no more than 22%.
The use of bus went up from 1950 to 1970 (approximately 20% and 30% respectively)
and went down from 1970 to 1990 (under 25%).
The bar graph shows that automobiles had become the most popular means of
transportation by 1990.

Film Is Giving Way to TV
Nowadays there are fewer and fewer cinema-goers and the cinema is slack.
However, there are more and more TV viewers. There are many reasons for this
social phenomenon, but in general, they come down to three major ones.
First, film tickets are too expensive, while it doesn’t cost much to watch
TV at home. Besides, it is time-consuming and inconvenient to go to the cinema.
Nevertheless, it is very convenient and comfortable to watch TV at home. You
needn’t go out but just need to turn on the television. Most important of all, if you
don’t like the film, you’ll have to sit through it; but if you don’t like one program on
TV, you can shift to another.
However, some people still go to the cinema. They usually go to the cinema for
the purpose of social contact. Young people go dating there. Other people go to
the cinema as an activity. For example, schools often organize children to go to
the cinema. Sometimes employees also go to the cinema with the film tickets
presented by their institutions.
