Description of the Module: For the required information speech students must prepare a
persuasive speech on an international topic using a claim of policy, fact, value and be
related to an international issue (e.g.: China should be allowed to reclaim its historic
territory in the South China Sea Basin, The United States should recognized plural
marriages of immigrants, etc.).
Educational Objectives of the Module:
1. Analyze an audience and adapt presentations to cross-cultural audiences accordingly.
2. Apply principles of composition to the development of oral presentation, such as
effective organization and outlining.
3. Develop ideas with credible forms of support and appropriate documentation.
4. Choose and select appropriated research methods.
5. Choose appropriate rhetorical methods to persuade the audience on the chosen topic.
6. Demonstrate the ability to analyze and evaluate the forces shaping an international or
cross-cultural event
Outline of Lectures/Discussions:
1. When the persuasive speech is assigned inform the students that it must be on a global
or international topic.
2. Explain that the goal of this assignment is help the student prepare for the global work
force.
3. Present possible topics that may interest the student
4. Remind the student of research materials which may assist them in preparing this
speech.

Objectives (writings, interviews, reflections, experiential projects or field work):
Through this Global Persuasive Speech the student will 1) apply principles of composition
to the development of oral presentation, such as effective organization and outlining; 2)
Develop ideas with credible forms of support and appropriate documentation; 3). Choose
and select appropriated research methods; 4) Choose appropriate rhetorical methods to
persuade the audience on the chosen topic: and 5) Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the
topic.
