Insurance for Children’s and Youth Groups If your parish is insured through Ecclesiastical Insurance Group with a Parishguard policy most of your activities will be covered through your parish policy. Please check with the person in your parish that deals with the insurance usually the treasurer or health and safety person on the PCC but may be someone else specific. If you are on Parishguard, your Children's and Youth work is covered as long as your work is approved and minuted as such by your PCC, whether it takes place on church premises or elsewhere. The group obviously has to conform to some rules and regulations such as leaders having CRB checks and Health and Safety issues have been addressed with a written risk assessment. If you decide to take your group on an outing to the beach, a farm or local beauty spot, this will also be covered as long as it has been previously minuted at a PCC meeting in advance (so no last minute outings!) and an extra risk assessment made. If you plan an unusual activity, such as canoeing, parachuting or bungee jumping, then you will need to check in advance with EIG to find out whether you are covered or need extra cover. They are very helpful on the phone. There is lots of information for churches on their website www.ecclesiastical.com as to what they need to be informed specifically about and what is covered. Ecumenical groups need to either be covered by one of the churches with agreement or take out a separate insurance. If your parish is not covered by EIG Parishguard then groups will need to check with the churches insurers whether they are covered for their activities. If in doubt please check with your parish insurers! If in doubt the Ecclesiastical general inquiry line is 0845 7773322 (better to phone and check than not be covered). It would be very useful for the leader of the group to have their church’s policy number to hand – probably worth having with any general paper work for future reference anyway.
