Schools purchase eBooks from different resources.
Currently, most eBooks come free with a print copy through EduRefrence.
However they come from different publishers. EduReference prefers that we contact the publishers directly. Most schools will give
us admin login and password, so we could download their records, but some prefer to send marc records via email or some
publishers too will send them via email.
In addition EduReference hired lwrc that catalogues and send us the ebook records.

As per Orland’s email EduReference will be absorbing the cost of marc records, (from my memory LWR will be charging
EduReference $.053 per record plus pennies for holdings, if many schools are attached to the record)
Ebsco too will not charge for marc records (details in Jeanne’s email)
All publishers we are dealing with should have our IP numbers (above). Some publishers will have the passwords embedded in URL
and with our IP addresses, students won’t have to login from the board.
However, if students go to all sites they will be able to search the ebook from any location, so we can’t really ‘push’ publishers to do
it.

However, coma in the URL breaks the link in Sharepoint. If the we substitute coma with an ampersand it works in Sharepoint, but
breaks a link from home.
So, we were given this URL, which works in Sharepoint, but we can’t use it ourselves because it has embedded user ID and
passwords, in other words anyone would be able to access it externally without a password.

Save file to T:\databases\ebooks_marcrecords
Edit Default Holding code EBOOK, change Library code:
Edit (or verify) bib records:
 search and replace GMD [electronic resource] with ebook e.g.

 remove print ISBNs - IMPORTANT: make sure you edit the second page as well
NOTE: Symphony ISBN match use a formula that calculates 13 digits numbers so e.g. record with 10 digit ISBN in
Symphony
will match 13 digit incoming ISBN 9781416602668
 remove the second URL e.g. LC table of content (only one URL is displayed in the search results)

Check stats, sometimes there is an ebook ISBN in the book record. Run report “New Title List” select Item type EBOOK and look for
the titles without gmd [ebook].

Not all schools want to register their IPs with Infobase, they want students to be able to remember the password
Not all schools will ask us to upload their ebooks
Infobase registered the board's IPs, but added the IPs to their accounts.
The marc records will contain the institutional ID of the first school that bought it (except Cawthra and Bramalea) e.g.

The second school will add their holdings but will share the same marc record.
Issues – this is quite complicated:
Opening an ebook will keep the information in the cache UNTIL the browser is closed
Scenarios:
For the school that purchased the book:
eLibrary link will take them directly to the ebook
If the same book is purchased by another school:
eLibrary link will take them directly to the ebook but it will display the name of the school whose Institutional ID is in the record.
Furthermore
It appears that the first school's account is saved in the Internet Explorer cache, so if the schools searches for additional (their own
titles) they will just see the list of ebooks purchased by the first library (until the browser is closed)
For example:. Bramalea 402 and Louise Arbour 642
If the shared record that have Louise Arbour ID is opened at e.g. Bramalea it will display Louise Arbour on a page AND then the
second title owned by Bramalea but NOT Louise Arbour will display Louise Arbour’s list.
(empire of islamic world ebook - shared between both; elizabethan england ebook - owned by Bramalea only)
The only way to address this issue is to close the browser, this will clear the cash or disable ALL IPs
Same things happens if the records DON'T have Infobase customer IDs in the URL
e.g. Cawthra or Bramalea (except the example above)
or the schools didn’t registered their IPs with Infobase e.g. Sandalwood
