If you have any questions, please contact the Cafeteria directly or Mr. Sainte Rose. Rotations •Rotations: Art, Spanish, Music, and Library •I will notify you when we are switching rotation. Homework • Homework should take around an hour – if there is an issue, please let me know. • Homework is explained in class and assignment pads are checked each day (the sticker indicates it was checked!) • Late homework is worth 50% (instead of a 0%). • My website details the grading system more thoroughly. Grading Symbols • 4: Meets expectations • 3: Progressing toward meeting expectations • 2: Progressing toward meeting expectations with some support • 1: Does not meet expectations • Again – these are explained on the website if you have further questions. What are we doing in Social Studies? •Six Units (the textbook is on my website) • Unit 1: The Land and the Early People • Unit 2: Cultures Meet • Unit 3: The Thirteen Colonies • Unit 4: The American Revolution • Unit 5: A Growing Nation • Unit 6: Civil War Times Social Studies • Key Terms -> given before or after reading a chapter. • Comprehension Questions -> given after reading. • Homework/Skills Pages -> given after we have completed a chapter. • Quizzes/Tests -> will review for these assessments in class and with the Chapter Reviews. What are we doing in Language Arts? • New district program: Good Habits, Great Readers -> Balanced Literacy Approach • Spelling: Words Their Way (will begin weekly homework in October – still assessing students). • Homework: • Reading every night!! • Daily Edit (grammar/editing review) • Spelling – every two weeks. To be completed in their Word Study NBs. Book Challenge • Letter sent home today: • Students are challenged to read 30 books over the course of the school year. • When they finish 3-5 books, they will get to place an apple on the tree (back of the classroom). • There are genre requirements outlined in the letter and on my website. We will keep track of these books in our Reading NBs. • Book Challenge not graded specifically; however, it incorporates all the skills from the curriculum and the Common Core State Standards. Scholastic Book Orders • Not mandatory – but cheapest books available. • Earn free book coupons/free books for the classroom (every point is used to buy books for our room – I am a bit obsessed with books. ) • Online or send back with payment to school. • Book Fair is at school this week – we will be going on Wednesday. • 304: 9:50-10:10 • 305: 1:30-1:55 School Policies School's policies regarding Tardiness/Absences: • Tardiness School doors open at 8:12. School starts at 8:15 A.M. At 8:20, students are sent to the office to sign in. If the student is tardy three times, the school will contact and assign a 7:30 AM morning detention. • Absence-If a student is going to be absent for a period of time, contact the office so I can try to get some work ready for them. • If absent excessively, the school will contact you. School Policies Cancellations Policy information about: • School cancellations for bad weather and other reasons can be found on the radio and online at www.nplainfield.org; please make sure your telephone number is up to date for our automated phone announcements • After-school activities- Flyers will be sent home about after school activities; it is the students responsibility to make arrangements to stay. • If your child is going home a different way, please try and let me know. It is my job to make sure that your child leaves school safely, and it is difficult if they are unsure of what to do if their routine changes.
