Course Description: The University and the College of Business are committed to providing students transformative learning experiences in six core areas. This course supports those goals by providing students with a foundation for constructing effective legally compliant compensation systems that will provide organizations with internal pay consistency, market competitiveness and the means for recognizing individual achievement. Course Objectives: Upon conclusion of this course students will be able to: * Define how compensation systems support organizational strategic mission. * Build both external and internal compensation systems through market analysis. * Apply and comply with Federal, Oklahoma and International legal aspects of employee pay and benefits. * Structure ethical and consistent pay systems that recognize employee contributions. * Recognize how to structure pay and benefit systems outside the United States. Course Requirements: Attendance: Regular attendance is mandatory! An essential component of this course is the learning that occurs while interacting with others in the analysis and discussion of assigned reading. Therefore, after students miss 2 classes, 10 points will be deducted for EACH additional unexcused absence. Tardiness will be considered an unexcused absence. Absences will be consider excused for personal and immediate family illnesses and emergencies and for scheduled school extracurricular activities. Appropriate documentation for absences will be required. Students are required to turn off cell phones and pagers during class. Use of personal computers during lecture time is prohibited unless essential to team assignments which will be conducted in class. Students that have personal computers will be encouraged to bring them to class for class projects. . Strategic Debate and Analysis Project: Student teams will be assigned topics that are relevant and current and controversial in the field of human resource management. Student teams will be expected to debate their assigned topic in front of the class on assigned dates with the opposing team. A academically researched paper will be prepared by each team and presented to the instructor on the assigned date of the debate. More specific instructions will be provided to students during the course of the semester. Examinations: There will be a total of four examinations scheduled during the semester. Each is worth 100 points. Questions will be both objective and short essay and will cover all assigned reading material and all lecture content. Students are required to bring a pristine Scantron Answer Sheet From 882-ES and a number 2 pencil to each examination to record answers.
