But how does SEMS actually work? SEMS System Architecture How does it work? TURNING THE STREET LIGHTS ON AND OFF SEMS offers lamp-level management capabilities for all the lights. Clients can switch off and on individual lights according to pre-programmed schedules. DIMMING THE LIGHTS It can considerably reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions to dim lights to lower levels in mid-nights when traffic are less. You will not only save money, but also reduce light pollution. COMMUNICATING THROUGH THE GRID SEMS communicates using PLC (Power Line Communication) or Zigbee between the lamps and the power supply cabinets, and using any IP-based communication solution available between the cabinets and the mainframe. There is no need to use any civil works to install the system. SENSING THE CITY The street light networks managed by SEMS are continuously under power, therefore, there are a lot of sensors can be added on the existing infrastructure, thus transforming the street lighting grid into a smart city platform for the future. OPEN PROTOCAL OF CMS There are two options for CMS, clients are free to choose SEMS software, or CMS from Street light Vision which is an open third party software adopted by various of hardware companies. REPORTING & MAINTENANCE SCHEDULING SEMS CMS offers advanced analytic tools, failure reporting, customizable maintenance planning, automatic daily backups and recovery procedures for a seamless functioning of the system. LAMP LEVEL SEMS lamp controllers (RTUs) manage and monitor every lamp in the city, performing ON/OFF switching and dimming functions, in addition to detailed feedback and error reporting. POWERLINE /ZIGBEE COMMUNICATION The communication between the data concentrators (CCs) and the lamp controllers (RTUs) are made via Power Line Communication (PLC) or Zigbee. CONCENTRATE LEVEL Concentrators are deployed in the electric distribution cabinets, it receives all the software commands and consequently manages the lamp controllers (RTUs), but also gathers all the information from the lamp controllers, analyzes, prioritizes, compresses and feeds it to the SEMS software. IP BASED COMMUNICATION Communication between electric distribution cabinets (where the Concentrators are installed) and central monitoring software is performed via any IP-based communication available, Ethernet or WCDMA/GPRS. SOFTWARE CONTROL LEVEL SEMS CMS is a integrated Network Management Software that allows the remote control of the street lighting system and 24/7 grid monitoring. Data Concentrator SEMS-CC08 is an Enhanced Central Controller based on ARM9 platform. It provides interfaces and ports (e.g. TCP/IP) to the host computer for various applications, while managing an intelligent control network consisting of many terminal nodes over power lines or Zigbee network。 Lamp Controller The Remote Terminal Units (RTU) receive commands from a Concentrator to power on/off/dim the lamp, monitor the status of the lamp and transmit the data back to the Concentrator. It communicate with data concentrator via power lines or Zigbee network.
