Replaced Dual Enrollment and PSEO programs. Student Choice Students can choose any course that is part of a degree or certificate program (not remedial or religious) at a public or participating private college. Credit Hours Up to 30 college credit hours per academic year depending upon the student’s school schedule. No more than 120 college credit hours while in the program. Not Only for Juniors and Seniors Students options have Pathways are a tool for high school counselors to help guide students Pathways A pathway may: Be organized by a major or career path Include various core courses required for a degree or professional certification by the college A pathway does not keep a student from choosing different courses. 15-30 Credit Hour Pathway in General Education & Business (examples) World Lit Honors + College Algebra + Spanish/French 4 + Photo 2 = 16 College Algebra + MTC Block = 16 World Lit Honors + College Algebra + Business + Language = 16 World Lit Honors + College Alg + MTC Block + Language 4 & 5 + Photo 2 = 31 College Algebra + All Business + Language = 21 Pathways can also include CCP courses taken online or on a college’s campus. Consider transferability of ALL courses taken for college credit. High School and/or College Credit CCP can satisfy or supplement graduation required courses. 3+ credit college course = 1 HS credit College credited course is on the transcript and affects the GPA even if the course is failed or dropped after the no-fault drop date. Official college transcripts must be requested to send to another college for transfer. What are some of the scenarios when a student may use College Credit Plus? The student has taken all courses our school offers in a particular subject. The student has taken all the courses they need to graduate and is ready to begin college work. The student wants to experience what college-level work is like. Tuition No cost for tuition for courses taken at a public college. Private colleges may charge families up to $153 per credit hour. Books and Fees Students attending a public college do not pay for either books or fees. Students attending a private college will have books paid for by the district, the college may pass additional fees to the family. Textbooks are purchased by DCS, and students must supply a list to their school counselor along with their college schedule. At Hayes, On-Campus, or Online Courses can be taken Hayes (see next slides for course options) Courses can be taken on a college campus (transportation must be provided by the family). On-campus classes may be taken any time of day – check the college website for course availability. Courses can be taken online. Facilitator of online course is not an instructor. Online Options Check the college’s website for online course options or talk to an advisor about these options. University of Toledo offers asynchronous online courses that are CCP eligible. Cedarville University (private college) also offers a wide variety of online courses Athletic Eligibility Courses may be used for OHSAA eligibility. Students may be required to obtain their current grade to submit to the athletic director to determine quarter eligibility. The following CCP courses taught at Hayes are NCAA approved: College Algebra, World Literature Honors, Spanish 4/5, French 4/5 Colleges Must… Assign an advisor to each CCP student taking classes at the college or online and schedule a student meeting on the phone, via email, or in person prior to academic no-fault drop course date (15th calendar day of the semester.) Steps to CCP 1. Notify School Counselor by April 1 of intent to participate. Apply to college of choosing by college assigned deadline (many are May 1). 3. Show academic college-readiness/admission standards based on college’s criteria (College readiness Test/Transcript). 4. Complete any additional paperwork for the college (counselor form, WSU Math test waiver, etc.) or online requirements (WSU Online Writing Test). 5. Attend an orientation, if required 6. Register for appropriate classes based on counselor and advisor recommendation. CCP is a process from application, testing, registration, requesting books, taking classes, reporting grades…you must stay organized and meet your deadlines! It is best if you know your pathway to ensure the courses you take will benefit you and can be transferred into your course of study. The Financial Aid begins to tick when CCP begins, and a poor college GPA from CCP could affect your ability to get aid. Textbooks are ordered by DCS and are not to be acquired by the student or parent, a textbook list with ISBN numbers must be turned in to your school counselor.
