2014 Advanced Placement Information for Parents and Students The study for an AP exam as a culmination exercise is a worthwhile endeavor. Students enrolled in AP courses are expected to take the AP exam. The policy regarding issuance of credit is determined by the college or university you are applying to, and will vary between institutions. Check with your college or university to see if credit will be given for Advanced Placement Testing before you order an exam. Please visit http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/apcreditpolicy/index.jsp It is necessary for you to make a commitment prior to Wednesday, April 2nd so that we can meet deadlines set forth by the Advanced Placement Program with regards to preregistration. The cost of each exam is $89.00. Late fees break down as follows: $20 between 2 PM April 2nd & 2 PM April 11th $70 between 2 PM April 11th & 2 PM April 17th Thursday, April 17th is the last day you can register for an AP exam. If you qualify for low income assistance, please register with a $15 check for each exam you intend to take, and speak to Mr. Morris regarding state and federal rebates that may or may not be available. The Advanced Placement registration form and schedule are available to be downloaded on the school's daily bulletin or guidance websites. These forms (and checks made payable to Chelmsford High School), can also be picked up and returned to Jonathan Morris in Room# 106. You may also mail them to the following address: Chelmsford High School Attn: Jonathan Morris - Hawthorne House 200 Richardson Road North Chelmsford, MA 01863 The College Board AP Bulletin for Students/Parents is available online at: http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/2013_14_ap_bulletin.pdf REFUND POLICY If a student registers for an exam and cancels before 2 PM April 2ND, a full refund will be issued (the check and registration can be handed back to the student). If a student is registered for an exam and cancels between April 2ND and April 11th a refund of $65 will be issued (in approximately 6-8 weeks). After April 11th, no portion of the fee is refundable. According to College Board, “You may ask for a refund if you do not begin an exam for which you have paid. Local school policy determines the amount of the refund. You will probably be required to pay the fee the school is charged for each unused exam. Once you begin an exam — that is, write on an exam booklet or answer sheet — you cannot receive a refund.” This statement from College Board applies to schools that do not utilize pre-registration! Chelmsford High School utilizes earlier deadlines to ensure appropriate proctor coverage, room usage, pre-registration, and eliminate scheduling conflicts within the school. Please review the schools you have applied to and their score acceptance policy prior to registration! 1 If you have any questions regarding registration for AP exams please visit the website mentioned above, or call Jonathan Morris at 978-251-5111. Special Circumstance Procedures as set forth by the ETS If you need to order an alternate exam, see Jonathan Morris in Room 106 Early Testing: -Is NOT permitted under any circumstance. Illness: If your child is ill, an alternate test will be arranged if: -The illness occurs prior to administration of the exam -You have a doctor’s note If your child is in school the day of the exam he/she will be expected to take the exam. -Be sure to contact the AP Coordinator Jonathan Morris, so an alternate exam may be ordered. Alternate Exams are permitted as outlined below: -CHS/MIAA Athletic or Academic Contests -An additional $55.00 is charged by College Board for each alternate exam to cover costs to prepare and grade these exams. -Late/alternate testing is not permitted for senior class trips, assemblies, family vacations or family graduations. From the College Board AP Handbook: “Occasionally extreme circumstances may make it necessary for a particular exam to be administered late to an individual student or a group of students. Only students affected by these circumstances may test late; everyone else must take the exam at the set time on the regularly scheduled date. The College Board develops alternate forms of each exam that are used only for late testing. All students who participate in late testing at a given school must take these alternate exams on the scheduled alternate testing dates at the scheduled times. Early testing is not permitted under any circumstances. When the cause of late testing is generally beyond the control of the school and the students, there is no additional fee for using the alternate form of the exam. In other instances, however, where the school or students have a choice between testing on the scheduled date or requesting an alternate date, the school is billed an additional $55 per student for each exam to partially defray costs. Your AP Coordinator will take care of all the details. If you test late, your grades may be delayed up to a month (August release), and your free-response booklets will not be available.” Please retain this information for your records, and tear off the completed registration form to hand in at CHS. 2 2014 CHS STUDENT ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTING REGISTRATION FORM DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION IS MARCH 28TH, 2014 WITH YOUR AP TEACHER NAME (Please Print) __________________________________________________ By signing your name, you agree to the terms and conditions with regards to registration, payment, and refunds set forth on pages 1 & 2 of the AP Registration form.
