JOB PURPOSE
 To promote through good working practice and positive employee relations, the status of SITA UK as
the ‘preferred employer in the waste industry’
 To continually identify key pensions and investment risks and formulate policies and strategies to
mitigate or minimise risks ensuring all relevant stakeholders are actively engaged in the process.
 To work in partnership with the HR team to develop key engagement initiatives across the business
 To act as the lead pensions adviser in Private Finance Initiative contract negotiations and be actively
involved in tenders proposals.
 To ensure all employees are aware of the available pension scheme(s)
 To ensure that all pension schemes, share schemes and the payroll function are
administered/managed in accordance with appropriate legislation and scheme rules
 To ensure that SITA UK and in particular the Pensions and Payroll departments, uphold a
professional impression with internal and external customers
 To effectively manage the appropriate budgets to ensure no overspend and all cost saving initiatives
are identified and actioned.
 To build and maintain the appropriate relationships with the reward teams in GDF SUEZ/SUEZ

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Empowered and Engaged Workforce
PENSIONS
 To ensure appropriate external pensions support (i.e. advise, administration) is in place and is
delivered in the most cost effective manner
 To continually monitor the performance of fund managers and advise Pension Trustees on a regular
basis on appropriate activity
 To act as the lead pensions adviser for SITA UK and ensure that the Remuneration Committee are
actively engaged in commercial initiatives.
 To promote commercial awareness and act as lead pensions adviser ensuring key stakeholders
understand pensions risks in tenders and contract negotiations.
 To be aware of trends and legislation particularly affecting the local government pension scheme and
develop policies to mitigate and minimise risks.
 To ensure an agreed and annually updated Pensions Strategy is agreed with the HR Director
 To ensure that trustees within SITA UK have adequate knowledge of pensions policy and practice
and provide communication and training as necessary
 Maintain, and communicate as necessary, current and pending pensions legislation
 Maintain a good working relationship with all external regulatory bodies and external suppliers (eg
legal advisors, auditors etc)
 To promote pension membership within SITA UK employees
PAYROLL
 To manage the payroll department within SITA UK in compliance with all relevant legislation
 To ensure that the interface between the payroll system (Tetra) and both the HR database
(Workforce) and internal financial systems are appropriate to ensure efficiency
 To ensure that the local operational / support management are aware of appropriate authority levels,
policies and procedures
 Brief/train/support local operational/support management on above authority levels, policies and
procedures to ensure maximum degree of self sufficiency
SHARES
 To manage the various GDF SUEZ and SUEZ Environnement share schemes in compliance with all
relevant legislation and scheme rules
 To ensure all employees are aware of the “mechanics” of the scheme in regard to key dates,
appropriate paperwork and tax/NI position
 To ensure that the records kept are appropriate for HRMC, payroll and GDF SUEZ/SUEZ
Environnement requirements
 To act as a check on all communication from GDF SUEZ/SUEZ Environnement is in line with UK
legislation. To lead on communication for SITA UK employees wherever possible
EX-PATRIOTS POPULATION
 To ensure appropriate payments are made to all ex-pats
 To ensure all necessary dedications are made for all ex-pats
 To ensure all necessary paperwork is completed for all ex-pats
 To ensure appropriate charges are accepted/cross charged to other businesses
 To ensure the contract of employment/terms of conditions of all ex-pats are known
 To ensure all the above are completed with support from PWC, Payroll, and the Suez Environnement
Reward team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Customer Service

To provide excellent customer service both internally and externally.
To actively engage key stakeholders both internally and externally to ensure that all initiatives are
properly communicated.
To actively involved the communications team on any business wide issues to ensure employees
are aware and most importantly understand any key initiatives (eg launch of new share
programme, pension scheme changes etc).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Protection
 Ensure that Pension Trustee meetings are held in compliance with legal/scheme requirements and
that adequate and accurate records are maintained
 Manage the various person schemes within SITA UK in compliance with all relevant legislation and
to the benefit of scheme members
 To ensure all share schemes are managed in accordance with UK tax legislation.
 To identify key legislative risks and ensure appropriate action and strategies are in place and
agreed with the HR Director and/or Remuneration Committee.


To be commercially aware of UK taxation and financial impact on pension and share schemes
To be continually identify key financial risks and ensure appropriate action and strategies are
developed to minimise and mitigate financial risks.
To manage pension budget
To ensure that the processes in place in the payroll department are as efficient and as cost effective
as possible. To define the manpower/systems requirements accordingly
To ensure all necessary financial procedures/controls are in place (e.g. ex-pats, PAYE, NI, link to
other internal financial departments).


KEY KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE







Pensions expertise to coverage to cover defined benefit and defined contribution scheme
knowledge as well as an indepth understanding of UK pension scheme taxation.
Experience in dealing with TUPE transfers particularly from local government and the
management of pension scheme transition.
Indepth experience of commercial transactions and the ability to deal with contract negotiations.
Previous management experience, ideally over more than one site
Payroll and/or shares experience giving experience in HMRC requirements
Track record of liaising with many stakeholders both internal and external to a company
Good team building skills both horizontally and vertically.
