Homework Log
In class you read and watched a mini clip about Luis Valdez, for
homework research three to five additional interesting facts
about his life.
Historical Exploration of the History and Culture of the Zoot Suit
You are going to explore the culture of the Zoot Suiter’s, the history of
the movement, and some of the factors that lead to the Zoot Suit riots in
1940’s Los Angeles. You will also be learning about an infamous trial,
known as The Sleepy Lagoon Trial, upon which Luis Valdez based the
play we are studying. Make sure you have a set of headphones and/or
turn up the sound as you visit this website because there will be swing
music in the air!
Read Act 1, Scene 1: Zoot Suit – Act 1, scene 2: The Mass Arrest (pages
