Algebra 1 – Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Extra Credit I understand that this Chapter 4 test was difficult and lengthy, however, I feel it is important that you get used to high stakes testing where time is limited and problems are difficult. It is important that you spend time preparing and learning the material. Because of the poor grades on this test, I have decided to change some things up for the remainder of the first semester. Let’s hope this helps your grade!!! If you scored less than 83%, you must choose the Chapter 4 interventions and retake the Chapter 4 Test. After retaking the Chapter 4 test, you will move on to Chapter 5 Lessons and Chapter 4/5 Extra Credit. I will replace your Chapter 4 Test with your new Chapter 4 Test grade!!! If you scored 83% or higher, you may move on to the Chapter 5 Lessons and the Chapter 4/5 Extra Credit. ALL TESTING AND ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED BY WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2013 AT 2:45 P.M. EXTRA CREDIT MUST BE IN MY HANDS BY FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2013 AT 2:45 P.M. Please show your parents this packet with the Chapter 4, Chapter 5, and Extra Credit dates and assignments and have them sign the bottom of each checklist before you submit them. PARENTS: The idea behind the checklist and the independent learning component is to allow your student to learn at their appropriate levels. While, for these Chapters, the tests are on a scheduled day, the student will be able to customize his or her learning of the concepts. I have included a pacing guide in the form of a calendar that is designed to keep your student on track. However, the learning is up to the student so they may skip around and/or spend more or less time on concepts. Each lesson may contain all or some of a lesson component, assignment component, an IXL component, a deeper thinking question, and/or a mini quiz. Many lessons will contain a Kahn Academy YouTube video targeting the concept. I chose these videos because many students are currently utilizing Kahn Academy in their Math OAA class and because it allows the students to watch, re-watch, pause, and rewind the clips to study concepts that are still a little fuzzy to them. I will be circulating the classroom helping students individually, in small groups, or in whole-class style mini-lessons as they seem to need assistance. I will do my best to try to ensure students are staying on target and on task during class. I need your help keeping your student on target at home. Your student will be responsible for watching the videos and taking notes for the lessons at home or in school before class to maximize time spent working on assignments in class when I am readily available. Your responsibility is to sign off on the checklist once the student has finished and before the student takes their test. This way, we can work together to ensure your student is doing their work and learning the necessary standards. I feel if we work together, we can maximize learning and their success! Feel free to e-mail me with any questions or concerns! DUE: Friday, December 7, 2013 Chapter 4 Extra Credit (10 points) Algebra 1 – Chapter 4 Enrichment Name: _______________________ Date: _________________ Pd:______ Slope-Intercept Form Line Art Objective: Create a picture, using graph paper, and determine the equation of each line used within your drawing. Steps: 1. Get a piece of graphing paper and design a picture. The picture should have at least: TEN (10) lines with a positive slope TEN (10) lines with a negative slope FIVE (5) lines with a zero slope FIVE (5) lines with an undefined slope. 2. Color the picture that you created. 3. Label each line of your drawing with a # from #1 - #30 4. Determine the equation for 12 out of 30 lines created. You need to find the equation of at least one line from each category. (So, you need to create an equation for at least one line with a positive slope, one line with a negative slope, one line with a zero slope, and one line with an undefined slope.) 5. Complete the attached information for your picture. 6. Once you have your picture sketched in pencil, you may use colored pencils to decorate your design. 7. To refresh our memories on positive, negative, zero, and undefined slope, fill in the graphic organizer using the original copy online: http://www.rollinghills.k12.oh.us/weis.aspx Other Information Needed: This will be an extra credit grade (25 points) All work needs to be shown to receive full credit.
