Course Description
Spanish II is designed to teach students to expand their basic skill and knowledge
learned in Spanish I. Instruction will emphasize vocabulary development, listening,
speaking, and writing skills in preparation for advanced work. This course also focuses
on learning more about the Spanish culture. Students will be able to express
themselves at a basic level in present, past, and future tenses. Additional emphasis will
focus on reading comprehension, language structure, and the ability to speak fluently
with accurate pronunciation and intonation.

Course Goals--Modern Language Education will help students:
1. Communicate with people in other cultures in a variety of settings

1. Interpretive Listening:
The student will be able to understand and interpret information, concepts, and ideas
orally from a variety of culturally authentic
sources on a variety of topics in the target language.
2. Interpretive Reading:
The student will be able to understand and interpret information, concepts, and ideas in
writing from a variety of culturally
authentic sources on a variety of topics in the target language.
3. Interpersonal Communication:
The student will be able to engage in conversations and exchange information,
concepts, and ideas orally and in writing with a
variety of speakers or readers on a variety of topics in a culturally appropriate context in
the target language.
4. Presentational Speaking:
The student will be able to present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of
listeners on a variety of topics in a
culturally appropriate context in the target language.
5. Presentational Writing:
The student will be able to present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of
readers on a variety of topics in a culturally
appropriate context in the target language.
Intercultural Standards
6. Culture:
The student will be able to use the target language to gain knowledge and demonstrate
understanding of the relationship among
practices, products, and perspectives of cultures other than his/her own.

The student will be able to acquire, reinforce, and further his/her knowledge of other

Daily tasks: 40%
Assessments, Projects, Portfolios, Presentations: 60%
Semester Exam:___% of overall semester grade

Course Requirements
1. Assignments: Turn them in!
2. Short Tests: There will be an assessment at the end of every unit. These will assess
vocabulary, language structure, and culture. These tests may include WRITTEN
RESPONSES, multiple choice, matching, fill in the blanks, etc..
3. Extended Tests: There will be a test at the end of each chapter covering all material.
These tests may include WRITTEN RESPONSES, multiple choice, matching, fill in the
blanks, etc..
4. Homework: There will also be additional assignments relating to reading
comprehension and culture. Homework may or may not be assigned on a daily basis.
Due dates are always closer than they appear.
5. Projects: There will be a project each grading period. See the Chart on the next
page for an overview*
6. Class Participation: Each student will be required to participate positively and
actively during class. This includes, but is not limited to, listening, repeating, answering
questions, and working in small groups.
Absences
Missed assessments and homework due to an unexcused absence cannot be made up.
It is the responsibility of the student to meet with the instructor on the first day after an
excused absence to schedule any makeup work. In accordance with district policy, all
work must be completed within 3 days of returning to class. Work turned in after 3 days
will be counted as late (10% per
day).
Cheating Policies
Cheating and plagiarism of any kind is not acceptable.
