Maps are visual models, or illustrations of a place. • Absolute location - locating a place using the system of parallels and meridians. • In order to draw the exact location of all countries in the world cartographers use a system of parallels or lines of latitude and meridians or lines of longitudes. • Example: Puerto Rico’s absolute location is latitude 18.5 degrees north and longitude 66 degrees west.
