The advertisement shown for Monsters Incorporated explained how
every child was matched to their ideal monster. This means that each
monster reflected something that child was scared of.

Looking at the monster in the picture above you can see that he has big, sharp,
white teeth; this is what the boy was very frightened of. However when we
watch the film we see this…
Without the teeth, this monster is just a soft blue dinosaur looking thing… not
scary at all!!! Not only does he not look scary, what he is afraid of most of all is
CHILDREN

Who is your monster?
When I was little the thing that scared me most was getting lost. I always
worried that I would get lost in a mall, at the movies or anywhere where there
were lots of people. If I was to turn my fear into a monster he would be the
kind that would confuse me and make me get lost in crowds. Maybe he would
be bright pink, so when I saw him I would get distracted and follow him instead
of my mum! Maybe he would look like this…

But one thing I have learned from watching Monsters Inc. is that he could be
really scared of me too. I guess that since he was so distracting (being bright
pink) what he might be scared of is standing out in a crowd. He might not want
kids to notice him because he is very shy. This means that if he were to see
himself he wouldn’t look scary (like I thought) but more like this…
If I knew my monster felt like this I would not be scared of them anymore and
try to help. I think I might suggest we walk through the crowds together. That
way I don’t get lost and people can look at the both of us instead of just him
and he won’t feel so shy.
