Acting experience My name is Ramesh and I am a 47 years old British Sri Lankan male. I am 5’9”tall and my weight is 60kg (9.5 stone). I originate from the north of Sri Lanka and have lived in the UK for the last 24 years. I am fluent in both Tamil and English. I have a burning ambition to become an actor and would welcome suitable roles in television advertisements, plays or film, filmed either in the UK or in India. During my time at college in Sri Lanka, I participated in English and Tamil Drama and also took part in several Elocution/Debating contests and won many awards. The award that stands out the most in my college days was the prize I got for playing Brutus when I won the ‘Best Actor’ award in the production of Julius Cesar on the College prize giving day. In the UK, in 1990, I trained two candidates aged 13 and 8 for separate Tamil Elocution contests and they both won first prize. When I worked as an Accountant for DSG International plc Head office at Hemel Hempstead, I was screen-tested and chosen for a Curry’s washing machine advert that was broadcast on UK national television. In 2004, I acted in a Tamil film, KANAVUGAL NEEJAMAANAAL (If dream come true), a two-hour UK production where I played a small part as a Religious preacher, which was released successfully in February 2005. Recently, I acted in two Tamil films, NEERK KOLAM & LONDON MAPPILLAI which will be released next year. Most recently, I have acted in another Tamil film, Oor Ithayaththile (From One Heart), which was released on 11 November 2006. In 2004, I also presented a one-hour live “Tamil Cinema song request programme” in Dish Asia Network, France Tamil Television. In July 2005, I was an extra in a Moorefields Eye Hospital charity project, to raise awareness of glaucoma, particularly in ethnic minority communities. Jon Sen at Illyria Films directed this. I am currently playing a major role as the heroine’s dad who is also the hero’s uncle in a London based Tamil production called “CHITRA” which is currently being shown on Deepam TV, GTV and CeeITV (Sky 797 South For You). This mega serial that had 176 half an hour episodes, had been produced and directed by Ragam Productions. My eldest son has also gained a small role as my son in this first Tamil mega serial produced in Europe. In September 2008, I acted in a NHS project for “Reasons to Quit Smoking” advertising campaign that is currently being broadcasted on all national channels in the UK. Sam Miller at Mustard directed this. I had to go through a sequence of casting/recall for this role contested for by many British Asians. I am extremely keen to play suitable roles in any (Tamil/Hindi/English) productions. I am also looking to play small roles in The Bill, Casualty, Eastenders etc. My photographs are attached.
