PROCEDURES! • Entering the classroom – Quietly. – Sit in your assigned seat. – Take out your materials/Sharpen pencils. – Turn in homework – Review agenda and objectives for the day. – Get your bell ringer folder. Get started on the bell ringer on projector. Homework Turn-IN: • You will be assigned a number. • This number allows me to keep you in alphabetical order. • When you have homework, it is due at the beginning of class. • Before you begin the bell ringer, turn in your homework to your pocket (The Turn It In Spot). Turning in assignments or tests: • Turn assignments and tests into the pocket that has your number • Student Work Area – Student table-Kleenex, hand sanitizer, sharpener, stapler, and Make-up work box – You may use these things at the beginning of class. Once class has began, you must raise your hand for permission to get out of your seat. – DO NOT STEAL OR THE PRIVLEGE WILL BE TAKEN AWAY! – MY DESK IS NOT YOUR WORK AREA! • Electronic devices will only be used for educational purposes. *Refer to the technology agreement • The phone will be taken up and sent to the office. You and your parents will need to make arrangements after that. • Please, do NOT bring food, drink, or gum into our classroom. You have 4 minutes between classes. Come to class prepared! *You will receive a check for not coming to class prepared. • Bathroom-You are given three passes for each 9-wk. grading period. *Boredom is not an emergency. HALL PASS • If I deem it necessary for you to leave the classroom, fill out the planner and have me sign it. • Cafeteria: – Expectations: Adhere to the cafeteria rules. – We go in quietly and in line. No talking while in the line. – We will have a line leader. There is a certain route we will go to the cafeteria. We line up at the CR door, head out to the double doors, and then proceed to go outside. We will stop every ten posts. – Say, “please” and “thank you” to the cafeteria workers! – Let’s clean up after yourself! • Tardies: – If you are late to class and you do not have an excuse you will sign a tardy management referral/form. – 1st and 2nd offense: warning – 3rd offense: parent notification – 4th offense: one day detention – 5th offense: three days detention – 6th offense: five days detention – 7th offense: ten days detention • Make-up Work – It is your responsibility to retrieve your make-up work. – Go to the Make-up box. Find your class period and get your work out that has your name on it. – Test make-up: Thursday after-school between 3-4:30. What’s my number? -I will assign you each a number. -You will need to write it on your syllabus and remember it. -This number is the number you will write on all turned in work. -Write in the right-hand corner and highlight. -Numbers will be given out next Monday. Handouts • Passing out papers: Straight down • Turning in papers: Straight up • In Groups: Will be given to the Materials manager to pass out Homework: • Maximum of twice a week • Ten assignments for each grading period • Ten points a piece • Cumulative grade for the nine-week grading period Test-Taking Days -Follow directions -Absolutely No talking! -Talking will be conceived as an attempt to cheat. -You will re-test. With a possibility of a different variation of the test. And loss of points Cooperative/Group work (in the classroom) • Move to the group that is assigned to you • Move quietly and wait for instruction • Keep the noise level down or you will be asked to do the work individually (and with a consequence). • DO NOT TOUCH OR DO ANYTHING UNTIL I GIVE DIRECTIONS! Laboratory/Experiments • Most experiments will be done in groups of 2 or 4. • Each member will be assigned a “job.” • All members of the group will adhere to the lab safety rules. If you choose to disobey the rules, you will be given a step with consequence. Group Jobs: Captain: Correctly store laboratory equipment (microscopes); check your group’s living materials; distribute safety goggles; keep group on-task; read directions to group Materials Manager: Collect and return lab materials Recorder: keep time with timers; record and report data for group; perform calculations Custodian: Clean work area; clean used equipment (microscopes, goggles, etc.); collect trash *Each member is expected to PARTICIPATE! Lab Days: -Each student must adhere to the Flinn Safety Contract. -Lab privileges can be revoked -Students will need to come prepared to work in the lab. -You come to class-in LAB mode! -Ready to be safe; quiet; ready to listen; ready to follow directions; work cooperatively in groups; your group should be the only ones to hear you -You are not allowed to touch anything until directed to do so • Visitors/Calls/Announcements/Teac her out of classroom Expectations: remain seated, quiet, and working on assigned work. • Substitutes Expectations: Follow our classroom rules and procedures. Treat our substitute as a guest in our classroom. • Emergency alerts (Fire drills, tornado drills, bad weather, etc.) – – – – Remain seated Wait for instruction Follow proper routes to ensure your safety Once we are outside, you remain in line, wait for roll call. – We back in orderly. – Fire Drills: Exit the door go to the right and go out the back door. – Severe weather/tornado: Go into the hallway and assume the kneel position. • What if I finish early? – Homework – Make-up work – Read a book/magazine – Review chapters – Study for upcoming test! Dismissal expectations: – The bell does not dismiss you. It is a signal that it is time for me to stop instruction. – I will dismiss you by saying “Have a GREAT day!” – Students are expected to get up quietly from their seats and move out the door. – CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE NOTHING BEHIND-MY ROOM IS NOT YOUR LOCKER.
