Born Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-LautrecMonfa • He was a French Painter, printmaker, draughtsman and illustrator. • He worked in the Post-Impressionism style. Life as a Child • He had a younger brother who died. After the brothers death his parents separated. • At age 8, Henri went to Paris to live with his mother. It was at this point he started to draw. He done his first sketches and caricatures in his exercise workbooks. • A friend of his father, Rene Princeteau, came to give him informal lessons. • In 1875 he moved back to Albi because of his health problems. Health Problems • His parents were first cousins. His grandmothers were sisters. • He suffered form a number of congenital health conditions because of the inbreeding. • As a child he broke a leg and a thigh bone, it didn’t heal properly. Modern doctors think it was because of a unknown genetic disorder. • He stopped growing cause him, to be just 5 ft 1 in. Unique Characteristics • He died young at age 36. He died of complications from alcoholism and syphilis. • It is fair to say that without him Andy Warhol would not be an artist. • He was harsh and witty chronicler of the nightlife and the sordid elements of 19th century Parisian society.
