Welcome to our exciting third year French course, here at MSHS! Course Overview: French III is a language course designed to develop intermediate communication skills in French. Course Objectives: Communicate in French: understanding and participating in conversations and storytelling, reading and writing at the intermediate level in present, past and future tenses, as well as employing conditional and subjunctive moods with increasing fluency. Gain knowledge and understanding of the contemporary cultures as well as geography, art, music and history of the francophone world. Follow CHAMPS guidelines.. Be seated by the beginning bell, actively participating in Au Début(Bell Work). Be prepared for class with book, folder, and pencil. You will be allowed 2 passes per six weeks to use for the bathroom/drinks/locker. Any unused passes may be redeemed for one point each on the unit test for the current six week period. Basic Course Information: You are expected to bring your book, workbook, binder and a pencil to class every day. Cell phones are not allowed to be visible or audible during class except with teacher permission for educational purposes. Phones will be placed on the whiteboard tray prior to each quiz and test and collected by their owners after the assessment time. Class Rules: Be Safe Be Respectful: encourage, follow CHAMPS, no food Be Responsible: on time, prepared, supplies Absences: After an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain all missed assignments. Most assignments can be found in the class’s supply box on the cart. It is recommended that the student have a “buddy” in each class who can be contacted about missed notes and assignments. The student must learn to be responsible, plan ahead, budget time wisely, employ good study skills and meet all academic expectations. Make-up work: Students will be given the number of days absent plus one day to complete and submit make-up work. Label the work “MAKE-UP & Date:___” at the top of the front page. Work turned in later than that will be graded as per School Board policy: 1 school day late – maximum of 90% 2 school days late – maximum of 80% 3-5 school days late – maximum of 70% After 5 days late – 0 grade Redoing an assignment: If a student receives below an 80% grade on an assignment that isn’t late, he may redo the assignment. All redo’s must be completed within 5 days during tutorials (8:10-8:30M-F or Friday’s lunch) or by appointment at lunch. To redo the assignment, the student must come to a tutorial first for review with the teacher. All redo’s of assessments will be different editions of the original assessments. The redone assignment can earn a maximum grade of 80%. The teacher will proceed in the following manner: Step 1 - The teacher will speak directly to the student about their behavior. (If necessary, the teacher may arrange a private conference.) Step 2 - If the unacceptable behavior persists, the teacher will inform the parents of the issue. Step 3 - If the two actions above do not produce the desired result, the student will be sent to the office with a referral.
