Objective: We will be able to comprehend the impact of selective breeding by
reading an article on the extinction of bananas with at least 90% accuracy.
Materials: Article and Worksheet on Bananas
Directions:
1. Answer the two questions on the top of the worksheet titled
Is the Banana Going Extinct?.
2. Read the article on the left and answer the questions on the
right.
3. The ANSWER to each question on the right side is located
in the box to its left.

Comic Strip on four steps of Natural Selection for giraffes
Objective: We will be able to illustrate the four steps of natural selection by
creating a comic strip on the evolution of giraffes with at least 90% accuracy.
Materials: Blank paper, markers
Directions:
1. DRAW four squares for a comic strip
2. TITLE your comic strip: “Four Steps of Natural Selection”
3. Create ONE square for each of the 4 steps of natural selection BELOW
for the evolution of giraffes.
4. At the bottom of each square, in your own words DESCRIBE what
happens in each step in the case of the giraffes.
Square 1: Genetic Variations: A group of organisms has variations, some variations are helpful and
others are harmful.
Square 2: Struggle to Survive: There is competition for resources. The organisms that have helpful
traits survive. The other organisms die.
Square 3: Adaptation: Certain traits help organisms to survive and reproduce.
Square 4: Survival of the Fittest: A species will change over millions of years so that all organisms have
fitness.
