Critical Appreciation on the play
1.Romeo & Juliet is one of the most famous plays written by William Shakespeare in
which his style is significant & outstanding.
2.The theme of the play is simply the love that took place between a couple whose
parents are bad enemies.
3.The writer excelled in using different figures of speech such as
metaphors,personifications,similes and exaggeration.
4.The structure & the diction of the play are both Archaic: words & verb forms used
in the play are no more used in modern English.
5.The characters are using elaborate style in expressing their feelings & thoughts
especially in the parts in which they describe one another.
6.Shakespeare's allusion or reference to Greek& Roman mythology is clear as well as
using elements of nature like the moon ,stars ,and the sun .
7.Shakespeare used an Oxymoron (an expression that combines terms that seem
contradictory) in one of Juliet's speeches when describing parting away from Romeo
as sweet sorrow.
(Sweet since they will meet again ,sorrow because of leaving her) .
8.Asides & soliloquies in the play served to reveal the characters feelings & inner
thoughts.Rhyming lines served to create a musical quality(poetic feature)
