We are learning…
 In all collisions, the total momentum
before the collision is equal to the total
momentum after the collision. This law
of conservation of momentum is true of
collisions from planets to microscopic
particles

Elastic vs. Inelastic
Conservation of p
Problem 1: A boy and girl are riding in go karts at an
amusement park. A 75 kg boy and car are moving at 3
m/s toward a 50 kg girl and car who are moving toward
him at 1.8 m/s. If they catch up, stick together, and then
move away together, what is their final velocity?
Conservation of p
Problem 2: A steel ball with a mass of 2 kg is traveling
at 3 m/s. It collides with a stationary ball that has a mass
of 1 kg. Upon collision, the smaller ball moves at 4m/s.
What is the velocity of the larger ball?
