Have You Heard?
Have you heard? The Christian film "War Room" was recently the No. 1 movie in
America! Trouncing everything else Hollywood had to offer, "War Room" is a film from the
Kendrick brothers (makers of "Facing the Giants" and "Fireproof") that calls the church back to
God and back to prayer. There's still time to see it... check out the listings in the local paper
and go - or go again!

An Update From the Shepherds
Walk Thru Bethlehem
CONSTRUCTION: The Construction of booths plans to start Saturday, Sept. 26!! Booth
"owners/volunteers" will be contacted and asked to meet at the church to see their booth
'space' in the church and then the actual booth walls in the church garage.
Booth volunteers will then work on decorating theirs. This may take more than one day.
The construction team is working hard to sort and display the available props and will help
with making props and suggestions as to what can be done to decorate the booths.
Once a booth is finished they will be carefully folded-up and stored for eventual set-up in
their place in the church the week of December 6.
STAFFING: Attention all WTB booth volunteers! You will be contacted within the next 2
weeks regarding your booth. Shon is planning to talk to each group, and further explain the
logistics, leading up to our production dates in December.
Want to volunteer for a team? See our leadership group after service on Sunday. We'll have a
table set up showcasing the different teams. We can answer questions, and help steer you in
the right direction!

"CREATION - FALL - FLOOD - NATIONS"
If those words mean anything to you, then you were at last year's Walk Thru The Bible
seminar. It's been a year, so many of us have forgotten what we learned and could use a
refresher. Here's your chance... and a refresher is FREE!
Ken Buck will be teaching the seminar next Friday and Saturday night for the Spanish
church... BUT, he'll be teaching in English and Isai will be translating into Spanish. So - if you
speak English, you can attend and listen as Ken teaches. Your notebook from last year will be
your FREE PASS for attending. Your notebook - Don't leave home without it!
Note:
This is only for those who attended the previous seminar and need a refresher.
Friday - 6:30 pm - Sept 26
Saturday - 6:00 pm - Sept 27

BE INFORMED
Meet and Greet with Gov. Mike Huckabee
It is not the church's place, nor your Pastor's, to tell you who to vote for... but I can (and will)
encourage you to be an "Informed Voter".
Disclaimer: Why are we hosting Huckabee and not other candidates? Simply because he
asked. We are not favoring any candidate over another. As other candidates make
similar requests, we will try to accommodate them too. Our goal is that you are
informed and given opportunities to be informed.
Some people cast a vote for silly reasons. Don't vote for someone just because:
Someone you know is voting for them;
Everyone you know is voting for them;
He, or she, looks presidential;
They wear the right political label;
Or... because you both like BBQ, rainbows and all that glitters.
Be informed. Know what they want to do - AND - how they plan to do it. Find out a
candidates track-record, ask the hard questions. Know before you vote.
Gov. Mike Huckabee will be available for Questions and Answers at a Meet and Greet here at
FBC THIS SUNDAY 1:00 - 2:30pm at our grassy picnic area facing Olive Street.
We'll sit on the grass so bring a lawn chair or blanket.
(maybe even your lunch)
We'll also enjoy the live music of the worship band, "641 Project".
Soft drinks will be provided

WORSHIP PASTOR SEARCH
What's happening in our search to fill our staff vacancy? There has been great discussion on
what we should be looking for, so the deacons were given the task of outlining what exactly
our search should be focused on. Here is the recommendation they brought to the Church
Council... and it was adopted there.
After much thought, prayer and seeking God's wisdom and will, the Deacons of FBC made the
following recommendation:
That a search committee be formed to search for a Worship Pastor Team Member. This is not
the 'name' of the position, but the substance of it.
Those 4 words were carefully and thoughtfully crafted by the following definitions:
Worship - by this we mean one who helps prepare and lead all age groups to encounter God;
Pastor - by this we mean someone with a servant's heart that transcends all ages and is highly
relatable to all groups;
Team - by this we mean they will work well in supporting other staff member's strengths and
help fill in areas of weakness;
Member - by this we mean they are not an "outsider" (someone who sees their responsibility
as something separate from everyone else, but an active, complimenting "insider" (a team
player who works with others) - at oneness with the rest of the staff.
The Church Council will appoint a search committee at their next meeting and appoint them
to begin work as soon as possible. Watch here for future updates.

BEHIND THE SCENES
After an exciting and rambunctious first week of AWANA with an attendance of over 140, Jane
was asked, "Were any savages there?" Jane replied, "No, it all went pretty well and everyone
was well-behaved." To which the inquirer replied, "No, I mean 'was there anyone there with
the last name, 'Savage'"?
Two needs still exist for AWANA to do even better: [1] We need more listeners to just sit and
listen to the children recite their Bible verses; and [2] Of the 150 kids now attending, we
need sponsors for 50 of them with $50 each to cover their uniform, supplies and more. If
you can help, please see Jane or sign up to adopt a child at the table in the foyer.

Related to the Church Family
Cassie Gerster's fiance had a most serious bicycle
accident. As of a day or so ago, Cassie reports that...
"Today, the propofel was reduced again for 5min to a half
hour. The neuro surgeons came in and couldn't get him to
open his eyes or anything. I told them the propofol was off
for nearly two hours last night and that is when I was able to get him to open his eyes. So
they reduced it again. Today I told Nate to open his left eye and he did, I told him to grip my
hand on the right side and he did, the nurse asked him if he was in pain and he shook his head
no. Praise God, all glory to the Lord!" For more info - see the two links below:

Cassie needs help getting back and forth from here to the hospital and a GoFundMe account
has been set up. If you'd like to know more details, check it out here:

Please keep both, Nate and Cassie in your prayers!
As always, I'll be looking forward to seeing you Sunday,
Pastor Gerald
