15.65 Department of Psychology Psychology BSc with Honours in Psychology BSc in Psychology Course Regulations [These regulations are to be read in conjunction with Regulation 15.1] The degree of BSc with Honours in Psychology is offered in conjunction with International Medical University, Malaysia, and the award is made in the name of the University of Strathclyde. The regulations are drawn up consequent upon the Memorandum of Agreement between both Universities as approved by Senate. 15.65.1 Status of Courses Admission to the degree will normally be limited to those students who have passed the designated course offered by the International Medical University. Such students shall be awarded credit transfer or RPL amounting to a maximum of 240 credits. All students are admitted in the first instance as potential Honours students. 15.65.2 Mode of Study The course is available by full-time study only. 15.65.3 Curriculum First and Second Years The first and second year curricula are not taught as part of the course. 15.65.4 Third Year All students shall undertake classes amounting to no fewer than 120 credits as follows. All classes are taught and examined at the University of Strathclyde. Compulsory Classes 36 439 Critical Analysis 36 451 Special Topics in Psychology C8 497 Psychology Essay C8 498 Psychology Dissertation Level 4 4 4 4 Credits 10 10 10 20 Optional Classes No fewer than 70 credits chosen from Regulation 15.60.138. 15.65.6 15.65.7 15.65.8 15.65.9 15.65.10 15.65.11 15.65.12 Progress At all stages of the course, a student must have achieved an approved standard of performance with regard to level of study and academic attainment. In order to progress to the final year of the course a student must normally have accumulated 360 credits from the course curriculum. In addition, a student must have achieved a specified standard of performance having regard to level of study, academic attainment and any other specified criteria. Final Honours Classification A candidate who has not submitted the dissertation in the prescribed form by the due date as specified by the Department of Psychology may not be eligible to enter the Final Honours Examination. In exceptional circumstances, an extension of time may be granted by the Board of Study acting on the recommendation of the Head of Department. On successful completion of the fourth year, a candidate will be awarded Level 4 credits corresponding to the classes taken. The final Honours classification will normally be based on (i) the first assessed attempt at compulsory and specified optional classes taken in the Honours year and, as appropriate, in the third year; (ii) if appropriate, an oral examination. Award BSc with Honours: In order to qualify for the award of the BSc with Honours in Psychology, a candidate must have accumulated no fewer than 480 credits from the course curriculum. These must include no fewer than 240 credits at Levels 3 and 4 of which a minimum of 120 must be at Level 4. BSc: In order to qualify for the award of the BSc in Psychology degree, a candidate must have accumulated no fewer than 360 credits from the course curriculum. These must include no fewer than 120 credits at Level 3 or above.
