Network Current Status The WLCG community has agreed to connect the Tier-0 and the Tier-1s with a dedicated, world-wide, high performance network called the LHC OPN (Optical Private Network). Where possible, the LHC OPN use dedicated 10 Gbps links. Currently, KISTI-GSDC has a path from KISTI-GSDC to CERN through the USA, but it provides just fewer than 100 Mbps network performances to the Tier-0 and the Tier-1s. But we fully understand the requirements for the network. And we has a concrete plan to increase our network bandwidth. Requirements Critical requirements for the network are: All Tier-1s must connect to the LHC OPN The agreed initial capacity for each Tier-1 site is 10 Gbps All Tier-1 sites must appear, network-wise, as a single entity The network must use public IP addresses, be fully routed (using the BGP protocol), and be reachable from the public Internet Each Tier-1 must connect to both the LHC OPN and the public Internet Fortunately, KISTI has a national network management center, and already has an international network infrastructure, called GLORIAD (Global Ring Network for Advanced Application Development). We can quickly fulfill the requirements using this network infrastructure. We have a 3-phase plan. The first one is for a short-term plan and the second is for a long-term plan. Phase 1 Design During 2012, as the first phase, the KISTI-GSDC tier-1 will be connected to CERN on a dedicated 1 Gbps link using existing GLORIAD, CAnet/CANARIE and GEANT. The figure below depicts this temporal design. Phase 2 Design In the second phase, the KISTI-GSDC tier-1 will be connected to CERN on a dedicated 10 Gbps links using same path of the phase 1. Phase 3 Design In the third phase, the KISTI-GSDC tier-1 will back-up path. Demonstration Plan To be planned. Introduction to KISTI-GSDC 1. History 2. Main Project 3.
