Introduction
This course is designed to give an overview of psychology. We will examine the history,
research methods, and different ideas that make this field of study. You will come to learn that
psychology is connected to just about everything (social sciences, natural sciences, etc...). It is
my hope/wish that you come away from this course with a better understanding of people and
the world around you.
Course Outline
Unit 1: Approaches to Psychology (Chpt 1: Introduction, Chpt 2: Research Methods and
Statistics)
Unit 2: The Life Span (Chpt 3: Infancy/Childhood, Chpt 4: Adolescence, Chpt 5: Old Age)
Unit 3: Mind and Body (Chpt 6: Body and Behavior, Chpt 7: Altered States, Chpt 8:
sensation/percep)
Unit 4: Learning (Chpt 9, Chpt 10: Memory, Chpt 11: Language, Chpt 12: Motivation/Emotion
Unit 5: Personality and Individuality (Chpt 13: Psych testing, Chpt 14: Personality)
Unit 6: Disorders (Chpt 16)
Important Rules
1. Come to class on time and prepared
2. Respect one another
3. Turn in work on time
4. Keep the room clean
Procedures:
1. Check the chalkboard for any warm-up assignments
2. If tardy, go directly to your seat. If you miss the first 20 minutes, you will be marked
absent.
3. Turn in work on time. NO late work will be accepted unless the student was absent.

2. Writing Utensil
3. Notebook
Grading Policy
Major Grades---60% (Tests and Projects)
Daily Grades---40%
Extra credit will be given on an individual basis if necessary
Tutorials
8-8:30 a.m.; 415-445 p.m.. Other times can be arranged with me.
Expectations
Psychology is a fun subject. Everything from neurotransmitters to romance lies within our
textbook. This course will give you the ability to see the world in a whole new light. You will
have a better understanding of human behavior which will make it easier to interact with
others. Finally, you will have a better understanding of yourself. That is my hope for my
students.
