Jesus is coming. . .soon! Are you ready? Throne Room Vision All the types of the Old Testament Sanctuary type meets antitype are fulfilled in the antitypes of the New Testament And are fulfilled in Christ’s work as the Son of Man and as our High Priest in the heavenly sanctuary Throne Room Vision “The four and twenty elders fall down before Him that sat on the throne, and worship Him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy” Throne Room Vision “Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.” Throne Room Vision Throne Sealed book John sees concerns the Room Vision redemption of mankind. During the Old Testament times, property or persons could be alienated by reason of severe debt owed to another. The record of the debt was kept in a duplicate format, one sealed the other open to witnesses. Throne There are three essential features Room Vision constituting the Jubilee • Personal liberty • Restitution of property • Faith in God’s power to provide food during the fallow years, or learning to live by faith and not by their works — a Sabbath of rest Throne There are three essential features Room Vision constituting the Jubilee • Personal liberty • Restitution of property • Faith in God’s power to provide food during the fallow years, or learning to live by faith and not by their works Kinsman • The kinsman must be a "near" Redeemer relative; the closest living relative to the person needing redemption • The near kinsman could redeem a poor relative from slavery by paying the required debt, if he had sufficient financial resources Kinsman • If a person was murdered, it was the Redeemer responsibility of the near kinsman to avenge the death of the individual by watching for and bringing the murderer to justice • Property that had been sold could be redeemed by the near kinsman if he paid what the relative owed against it Kinsman 1. The kinsman must be a "near" Redeemer relative; the closest living relative to the person needing redemption 2. The near kinsman had to have sufficient resources to pay the debt 3. And he had to be able to bring the murderer to justice Kinsman 1. The kinsman must be a "near" Redeemer relative; the closest living relative to the person needing redemption • Christ MUST assume the nature of man that needed redeeming so that He could become our “closest relative” • Heb. 2:14-18; Rom. 8:3; Phil. 2:5-8 Kinsman 2. The kinsman must have sufficient Redeemer resources with which to pay the debt which was owed • Christ alone has sufficient assets to meet the just demands of the broken Law; His righteousness is complete, lacking nothing • Rom. 5:17, 18; 1 Tim. 2:6; 1 John 2:2 Kinsman “. . . with the precious blood of Redeemer Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, who by Him do believe in God, that raised Him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.” 1 Peter 1:19-21 “For Thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood . . .” “. . . Worthy is the Lamb that was slain” “Worthy” means “full of value” and in this context it means MORAL worth Kinsman 2. The kinsman must have sufficient Redeemer resources with which to pay the debt which was owed • Christ has paid the debt that was owed and has set the captives free from slavery to sin and Satan Kinsman “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield Redeemer yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but [now] ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.” Rom. 6:16, 17 Kinsman “Let not sin therefore reign in your Redeemer mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but yield yourselves unto God as those who are alive from the dead” Rom. 6:11, 12 Kinsman Redeemer “Put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.” Rom. 13:14 “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Gal. 6:11 Kinsman 3. He had to be able to bring the Redeemer murderer to justice Satan is a defeated foe, he has NO POWER over us except what we willingly give to him; he is living on borrowed time and he knows it; that’s why he is a “roaring lion seeking whom he may devour” Throne Room Vision Who is worthy to open the Book? Basic Principle of Bible Interpretation Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream “. . . Thou art this head of gold. And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron . . .” Daniel 2:38-40 Babylon Medo-Persia 605-538B.C. 538-331B.C. Four Beasts of Daniel chapter 7 Greece 331-168B.C. And He came and took the book out of the right hand of Him that sat upon the throne.” Rev. 5:6, 7 Seven Seals Vision “. . . And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much . . .” Rev. 5:3, 4 “The Lamb of God” Paul’s Journeys Christ Opens the Seals Rider on the white horse going forth to conquer Rev. 6:1 - 2 Christ Opens thesaidSeals Paul that the Gospel had been “preached to EVERY creature which is under heaven” Colossians 1:23 Christ Opens thesaidSeals Paul that the Gospel had been “preached to EVERY creature which is under heaven” Colossians 1:23 “Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed” Dan. 8:14 Type meets antitype in the history of the work of Christ The Four Horseman White Horse = Ephesus church period Red Horse = Smyrna church period Black Horse = Pergamos church period “As the stream of Christianity flowed farther from its foundation, it became more and more corrupt, and as the centuries advanced, superstition advanced with it . . . till at length, the Book of God was being laid aside for legendary tales, and the ‘traditions of men,’ all these corruptions were collected into a regular system of superstition and oppression.” J. C. Woodhouse, The Apocalypse, p. 146 (1805) Pergamos church period “ . . .the land tax, the capitation, and heavy contributions of corn, wine, oil, and wheat, exacted from the provinces for use of the court, the army and the capital. . . . The great body of Caracalla’s subjects were oppressed by the aggravated taxes, and every part of the Empire crushed under the weight of his iron scepter.” Pergamos church period Oppressive laws demanded that the land be heavily taxed based on its productivity. This led landowners to deliberately reduce the grain production to avoid the high taxation. The practice of destroying crops to avoid taxes became so widespread that the government issued an edict forbidding the destruction of olive trees and grapevines. Thyatira church period “ . . . a pale horse, and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with beasts of the earth.” Rev. 6:8 Thyatira church period The original word translated “pale” means a sickly yellowish color like that seen in plants that don’t receive enough light to maintain photosynthesis so they stay bright and green. Thyatira church period H.G. Wells described the papacy as an attempt at world dominion through religion. During this period of world history, the “two witnesses” had to do their work clothed in sackcloth because the Bible was no longer accepted as the sole rule of faith and doctrine, having been supplanted by man-made church traditions. Futurism and the Four Horsemen Futurism and Four Horsemen Walvoord said: “The rider on the white horse is none other than the ‘prince that shall come’ of Daniel 9:26, who is to head up the revived Roman Empire and ultimately become the world ruler . . . He is Satan’s masterpiece and the counterfeit of all that Christ is or claims to be . . . The same individual described as the beast out of the sea in Revelation 13.” (John Walvoord, The Revelation of Jesus Christ, 1966) Futurism and Four Horsemen Walvoord said: “The rider on the white horse is none other than the ‘prince that shall come’ of Daniel 9:26, who is to head up the revived Roman Empire and ultimately become the world ruler . . . The same individual described as the beast out of the sea in Revelation 13.” (John Walvoord, The Revelation of Jesus Christ, 1966) Fifth Seal — souls under the altar “And when He had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: and they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?” Rev. 6:9, 10 Fifth Seal — souls under the altar “The sacrificial altar was not in the sanctuary, but outside; so Christ's literal sacrifice and the figurative sacrifice of the martyrs took place, not in the heavenly sanctuary, but outside, here on earth. The only altar in heaven is that antitypical to the earthly sanctuary altar of incense. The blood of the martyrs symbolically cries from the earth from under Christ's cross, whereon they may be considered virtually to have been sacrificed as they stood for God’s truth.” Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Fifth Seal — souls under the altar Albert Barnes, the noted Presbyterian commentator said: “We are not to suppose that this literally occurred, and that John actually saw the souls of the martyrs beneath the altar—for the whole representation is symbolical.” Notes on the New Testament, vol. 9, p. 171 Fifth Seal — souls under the altar Adam Clarke tells us: “A symbolical vision was exhibited, in which he saw an altar. And under it the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God—martyred for their attachment to Christianity . . . victims of idolatry and superstition.” Fifth Seal — souls under the altar St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre Fifth Seal — souls under the altar “And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? And He said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto Me from the ground.” Genesis 4:9, 10 Fifth Seal — souls under the altar In the Bible, we find many symbolic statements about inanimate objects that “cry out” — “The stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.” Habakkuk 2:11 Fifth Seal — souls under the altar We cannot take these verses literally and claim that it is literal dead persons who are crying out for vengeance from God. The dead “know not anything” (Eccl. 9:5) Thoughts perish when a person dies (Psa. 146:4) Fifth Seal — souls under the altar “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” Romans 12:19 The martyrs are told they must remain at rest for a short period, or until the resurrection at the SECOND COMING of Christ . The period of time represented by the sixth seal began in 1755 and continues until the SECOND COMING of Christ. Sixth Seal – Philadelphia church Three Great signs in nature • Great Earthquake – 1755 • Dark day and moon of blood – 1780 • Falling Stars – 1833 Sixth Seal – Laodicea church “And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains . . . Sixth Seal – Laodicea church “And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: for the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” Revelation 6:14-17 Sixth Seal – Laodicea church “And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for Him we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.” Isaiah 25:9 Next week — chapter seven and the sealing of God’s people
