Historypin is an online, user-generated archive of historical photos and personal
recollections. Users are able to use the location and date of an image to 'pin' it to
Google Maps. Where Google Street View is available, users can overlay the
historical photograph and compare it with the contemporary location. The website
has over 30,000 images and recollections “pinned” to the Historypin map, mainly
in the UK but also covering North America and continental Europe, with a small
number in other areas.

Find a treasury of old radio shows from the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's. There are seven
genres from which to choose (comedy, mystery, western, drama, etc..), and each genre
has at least ten different old radio shows for your selection. There is a miscellaneous

Broadcasts," and "Fireside Chat with Franklin D. Roosevelt." Notes: To listen to this

As a class, listen to a couple of radio shows, taking note about the sound effects heard.
Use your interactive whiteboard or projector to list the sounds. Have the class speculate
about what objects could have created each sound. Post the radio site on your web page
and assign the students to determine what household objects are responsible for the
sounds for homework. Back in class the next day, use your interactive white board to
share the student discoveries. From here it would be natural to have your students create
a two or three minute radio show for a topic being studied in history or science. Students
could also turn part of a short story into reader's theater (including sound effects) and

The FBI - SOS (Safe Online Surfing) Challenge offers activities aimed at learning about cyber
safety. The site features six grade-specific "islands" for students in grades 3-8. Activities
highlight various aspects of cyber security through educational games, videos, and other
interactive features. Each island has either seven or eight interactive areas to explore--with a
specific cyber safety lesson. Islands also have central characters and visual themes. For
example, fourth grade features Ice Island, complete with falling snow and penguins. There is

This wonderful resource demonstrates angle measurements in triangles. Click a corner and
drag it around the screen to change the measurement and view changes to other angles.
Choose from several different types of triangles to begin. Each change is shown on the
equation which always displays a sum of 180 degrees as each of the angle measurements
change. Learn about right triangles, obtuse triangles, scalene triangles, and more!
In the Classroom
Use this site on your interactive whiteboard (or projector) to demonstrate different
kinds of triangles and angle measurements. Change triangle dimensions and ask
students to define the category they fall into. Have volunteers come up to the
whiteboard and change the measurements of a triangle, while the rest of the class
guesses what type of triangle is now created. Create a work station using this site
and allow students to explore the different measurements on their own.
