While Governor of New Jersey, Wilson ignored the demands of the party machinery.
Created state primaries which took party bosses out of the presidential election process in
the state. Also, introduce worker’s compensation.
1913, created the Federal Reserve System, controlling interest was placed in a public
board. Board of Governors included members appointed by the President and approved
by Congress
1913, underwood Tariff lowered the tariff and federal income tax was created which was
authorized by the 16th ammendment.
Seaman’s Act 1915 improved working conditions for merchant sailors
Smith Lever Act of 1914 created the modern system of agricultural extension agents
sponsored by the state agricultural colleges
1916 "Federal Farm Loan Board" issued low-cost long-term mortgages to farmers
Keating-Owen Act 1916, decreased child labor, even though Supreme Court ruled it as
unconstitutional in 1918
Adamson Act 1916: imposed 8 hour workday for workers involved with the rail roads
Federal Trade Commission stopped unfair trade practices
Clayton Anti-Trust Act made certain business practices illegal
price discrimination, agreements prohibiting retailers from handling other companies'
products, and directorates and agreements to control other companies

Interest does not tie nations together; it sometimes separates them. But sympathy
and understanding does unite them.
