AP Lit 12 Independent Short Fiction Analysis

Choose a story. Library (Nov.5)

Read and respond: You must present evidence of your analysis (notes, photocopy with annotation). Show that you have considered both the narrative techniques the author has utilized as well as the meaning of the work as a whole (issues, themes). Try NOT to do any outside reading on the story. This should be what YOU notice in the story.

Reading Log: CAW: Hand in 3 responses: 1 quote that demonstrates you can CONNECT. 1 quote that demonstrates you can ANALYZE. 1 quote that demonstrates you can WONDER. 100 words each.

Write: you will write an essay, in class, on your story. The question will be to discuss how the author uses language to reveal the meaning of the work as a whole. Suggestion: consider if there is one main technique (ie. characterization, setting, irony) as a focus for your essay. You will be allowed to use your copy of the story, the notes you have taken, an outline of an essay.
