1. John can paint a 12’ by 30’ fence in 3 hours. Katie can paint the same sized fence in
4 hours. How long will it take them to paint a 12’ by 30’ fence if they work
together?
2. Bill can mow the lawn in 40 minutes and John can mow the lawn in 60 minutes.
How long will it take for them to mow the lawn together?
3. Mike and Joe take 3 ¾ hours to do a job. Joe alone takes 10 hours to do the same
job. How long would it take Mike to do the same job alone?

5. Jamie works 3 times faster than Steven. Together, they do a job in 9 hours. How
long does it take Steven working alone to do the same job?
6. Pete works 4 times faster than Paul. Together, they do a job in 16 hours. How long
does it take Paul working alone to do the same job?
7. Megan, Joe and Laura can finish painting the fence in 2 hours. If Megan does the
job alone she can finish it in 5 hours. If Joe does the job alone he can finish it in 6
hours. How long will it take for Laura to finish the job alone?
8. A tank can be filled by pipe A in 3 hours and by pipe B in 5 hours. When the tank is
full, it can be drained by pipe C in 4 hours. If the tank is initially empty and all three
pipes are open, how many hours will it take to fill up the tank?

9. Working alone, Ryan can dig a 10 ft by 10 ft hole in five hours. Karen can dig the
same hole in six hours. How long would it take them if they worked together?
10. Working together, Lindsay and Natalie can mop a warehouse in 9 hours. Had she
done it alone, it would have taken Natalie 12 hours. How long would it take Lindsay
to do it alone?
11. Rob can tar a roof in nine hours. One day his friend Kayla helped him and it only
took 5 hours. How long would it take Kayla to do it alone?

12. Working alone, it takes Kristin 10 hours to harvest a field. Stephanie can harvest
the same field in 16 hours. Find how long it would take them if they worked
together.
13. A tank can be filled by pipe A in 6 hours and by pipe B in 8 hours. When the tank is
full, it can be drained by pipe C in 12 hours. If the tank is initially empty and all
three pipes are open, how many hours will it take to fill up the tank?
14. Tom can shovel his driveway in 2 hours. If Tom enlists the help of David, it takes
only 1.2 hours to shovel the driveway. How long would it take if David had to
shovel the driveway alone?

1. Ellen can pick 130 apples in 2 hours but Mike takes 3 hours to pick the same
amount of apples. If they worked together to collect 130 apples total, how long
would it take?
2. Cindy works 4 times faster than Peter. Together, they do a job in 12 hours. How
long does it take Peter working alone to do the same job?
3. It takes Trevor ten hours to clean an attic. Cody can clean the same attic in seven
hours. Find how long it would take them if they worked together.

full, it can be drained by pipe C in 20 hours. If the tank is initially empty and all
three pipes are open, how many hours will it take to fill up the tank?
5. Working together, Sal and Daniel can paint a room in 2 hours. Had he done it alone
it would have taken Daniel 5 hours. Find how long it would take Sal to do it alone.
6. Working alone, it takes David eight hours to dig a 10 ft by 10 ft hole. Brenda can
dig the same hole in nine hours. How long would it take them if they worked
together?
