Academic Success Center
Morning sessions at the WSU C2 Pipeline Warriors College Experience will be overseen by
the Wayne State University Academic Success Center. These sessions intend to expose
high school seniors to some of the skills an incoming college freshman may find helpful.
Students will attend Article Reading Lessons, classes highlighting concentration and
effective listening techniques, learn how to cope with stress and procrastination and
attend test preparation skills seminars. Additionally, members of the WSU Libraries
Department will guide the students in proper researching techniques. Several members
of the Counseling and Psychological Services Center will be present to discuss topics such
as Academic Anxiety and Conflict Management. One of the highlights of the morning
sessions is the Student Panel. During this time, the high school seniors attending the
WSU C2 Pipeline Warriors College Experience will have the opportunity interact with
several current and former WSU students and their college experiences, tips and advice.

Nursing
Students participating in the Nursing track of the WSU C2 Pipeline Warriors College
Experience will become familiar with the nurse’s role in diabetes through the lifespan
approach. Students will begin by learning about the disease and how nurses are involved
in the care of a diabetic. From there, a new age group will be introduced each session. In
addition to discussing the health implications of diabetes during that time of life, students
will explore the psychological, cultural, and spiritual and lifestyle complications a patient
with diabetes may experience. During the eight sessions, students will have the
opportunity to explore the function of the pancreas through dissection, monitor glucose
and insulin levels, learn how to give an insulin injection and use a monofilament testing
device to assess neuropathy. As a final activity, students will be given patient situations
and work as teams to develop the best care plan for that patient.

Engineering
Students participating in the Engineering track of the WSU C2 Pipeline Warriors College
Experience will have the opportunity to see how the medical and engineering fields work
hand in hand. During the first week of instruction, students will be introduced to the role
of glucose and insulin. Throughout the rest of the week, students will discuss the role of
engineering and technology as they relate to glucose monitoring, insulin delivery and
living with diabetes. During the second week of instruction, the focus will switch to living
with diabetes. Students will be exposed to the technology behind prosthetic limbs. Once
familiar with this technology, students will utilize AutoDesk software to design a 3D
prosthetic limb model. Towards the end of the week, students will have the opportunity
to utilize a 3D printer to replicate the prosthetic limb model they designed.

Needs
IPE Team Sponsors
• Mentorship of a group (5 students) for about 10 hours over the two week period. The
mentorship would be done on campus. It would not have to be the same person, it
could be a group/team of people from your organization.
• Attendance of the sponsor(s) at the presentation Gala on Thursday, July 17th.
• Attend a Pre-Meeting in June to go over the program, see the curriculum being used
and the rubrics for the competition. This will be during the day and last approximately
1 ½ hours.
WSU C2 Warriors
College Experience
Sponsor Benefits:
• Each of the IPE teams will be named after the organization. This will help to promote
a sense of team within the IPE as well as give marketing and visibility to the sponsor.
Students will be able to say for example that this summer I was in the School of
Medicine and belonged to the “XZY Team”.
• Recognition as a Sponsor in all Marketing Materials.
• Opportunity for your Sponsored Team to compete against other teams in the industry.
• Recognition at the Gala Event on Thursday, July 17th
