POWER OF THE PEN TEAMS BENEFIT FROM THE OPTIMIST CLUB’S
GENEROSITY
The Tipp Middle School Power of the Pen team would like to thank the Tipp City Optimists Club
for their generous donation to help offset the costs of tournaments for the team. Pictured
are the president of the Optimist Club, Christine White, Bridget Hughes, 7th grade coach,
and Amy Armentrout, 8th grade coach. Tournaments typically cost the team over a thousand
dollars, which has been raised in the past through fundraising. The Power of the Pen team is
very appreciative for the Optimists' generosity.
GIRLS IN SCIENCE
On Friday, November 14, ten female middle school students were able to participate in a Girls in
Science seminar at Edison Community College. The girls that attended the seminar were Stephanie
Fink, Leena Vyas, Caitlyn Hood, Alexis Cook, Hallie Thompson, Annie Livesay, Jillian Zuzolo, Isabelle
Crow, Katie Taylor, and Jackie Bashore.
The goal of the convention was to allow the girls to explore different fields of science, technology,
engineering and mathematics. The girls from the middle school chose to explore robotics,
healthcare, crime scene investigation and much more.
The girls had the opportunity to participate in a writing contest prior to the event. Seven of the 10
students participated, including 86 other writers from surrounding schools. The essay was aimed
toward a fictional character named MITSE that showed exceptional skills in STEM, as well as skills
essential to be a career bound students. The writers were to compare themselves to this fictional
character by explaining ways in which they are career bound and exceptional in the areas of
science, technology, engineering and mathematics. A big congratulations goes out to Leena Vyas as
the 1st place essay writer. Leena brought home an IPad and a gift card.
Another contest held at the convention was a “selfie” contest. The girls were to take pictures
throughout their day and post them on Instagram using an assigned hashtag. Once again, Tipp
brought home the gold thanks to Stephanie Fink. Stephanie posted a picture of all the middle school
students representing the conference symbol on their wrists. Stephanie won an IPod.

CTC TRIP RE-SCHEDULED: Due to the Snow Day this past Monday, we have had to re-schedule
the 8th grade CTC trip. Monday’s 8th grade CTC visit is rescheduled for December 9 th. Tuesday’s
visit is rescheduled for December 10th.
LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW
It is so hard to believe that we have already had a snow day and a two hour delay and it is not even
Thanksgiving. At least we are not in Buffalo. This year, the state has moved away from minimum
number of days to a minimum number of hours. The district has decided to address snow days in a
similar manner like we have done in the past. After FIVE full days out of school, not counting
delays, we will then start looking at making up additional days. How those days will be made up has
not been determined at this point. Hopefully, this winter will be kinder and gentler than last year’s.
Congratulations to our TMS winners of the Annual Tipp Monroe Community Services
Turkey Coloring Contest;
1st place: JC Rouse
2nd place: Hallie Tanner
3rd place: Simone King

relatives, neighbors, etc. Dec. 1-12 we will collect them by grade level (6th, 7th and 8th) and reward
the grade that brings in the most with an ice-cream sundae after lunch on Dec. 19th.
GRADE CHECKS
A great way for parents and students to stay on top of grades is through the Parent Internet
Viewer. (PIV) With a simple username and password, you have instant access to grades. You also
have access to a variety of reports e-mailed to you daily, weekly, or bi-weekly, basis. Current grade
report, low grade alert (set at any % you would like), daily attendance, unexcused absence
notification, and posted assignments all can be established by a few quick clicks of the mouse. If
you do not have the usernames and passwords, please contact the main office.
Needy Basket of Southern Miami County

With the help of our new assistant principal, Ms. Brashear, we are video recording our
announcements each day. Different students are chosen each day to read the announcements that
teachers can show each day. Since we are still in the early stages of this, we are still working on
getting this to run smoothly. If you are interested in seeing these, you should be able to use the
following link to connect to them. Please let us know if it does not work.

ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY: Students must be passing FIVE (5) classes with a minimum of a 1.5
