The Parable of the mustard seed JAKE SUMMER PROJECT JUNE 2015 Why did I choose this parable? I chose this parable because I liked its meaning and found it easy to understand. The Parable of the mustard seed is found in Mark 4: 30-32 The parable of the mustard seed, what does the bible say? “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds of the air can perch in its shade.” So what does this mean? The parable of the mustard seed is about how a tiny seed can grow into a massive plant. From small things great things can be produced. Jesus uses this simple fact to illustrate the spreading of the gospel throughout the world. The Kingdom of God (the large mustard plant) grows from the planting of gospel in peoples hearts. Christian Faith Jesus uses the idea of a mustard seed and growth to teach us about Christian faith. When Jesus told this parable he compared it to loving God. When people begin to love Jesus their love is like tiny mustard seeds before it is planted. It starts out very small at first and as you listen and learn about him the love grows bigger and bigger. Jesus started growing the Kingdom of God with a handful of disciples. Every follower of Jesus is part of the kingdom. Each time we tell someone about Jesus, we are helping to grow the Kingdom. In the beginning there were only a few believers but the number of people who followed Jesus grew and grew. ‘ ‘Great things grow from small beginnings’ How is it still meaningful today? Other examples of great things grown from small beginnings are………… Apple pips when planted grow into a grand trees growing many apples containing even more seeds. Other examples….. Learning at school teaches you lots of information to get a good job and open opportunities for work And finally…… Me!!! I am a great thing grown from a small beginning
