World War I Picture Book Project
Objective:
You are to create a picture book covering the seven (7) causes or reasons why countries joined World War I. This small
picture book must be made using computer paper and cannot be any bigger than the size of a sheet of paper. You can
make the book smaller if you like, such as on half a sheet of paper. Each cause will be a separate page. The picture book
needs to be bound in some way. This project is worth 30 points.
For this project, you need to include the following for each of the 7 causes:
 The name of each cause and its definition
 Two (2) background sentences, which need to be clear, detailed and complete, on why just one of the countries
involved in World War I joined the war due to that cause
Choose from the following countries: British Empire, France, Russia, Serbia, Belgium, German Empire,
Austro-Hungarian Empire, Bulgaria or Ottoman Empire
 Three (3) summary sentences, which need to be clear, detailed and complete, on why that cause led to all that
country joining World War I
 For causes #6 and #7, four (4) sentences will need to be written on why these two causes (unrestricted
submarine warfare and the Zimmermann Telegram) led to the United States joining World War I
 A picture, which needs to be historically accurate, that matches your 3 summary sentences (this picture can be
either hand-drawn or from the computer – if you include a picture from the computer, you need to give the URL
for that picture)
