Spice Girls
•The Spice girls were a girls group made up of
Ginger Spice (Geri Halliwell ), Scary Spice (Melanie
Janine), Sporty Spice (Melanie Jayne Chisolm), Baby
Spice (Emma Lee Bunton), and Posh Spice (Victoria
Addams). These names were given to the girls by
the English press. The Spice girls had many hit songs
such as Wannabe and 2 Become 1.
•The 5 different Spice Girls personalities showed 5
different styles that many girls could relate to. The
Spice Girls started trends like platform shoes, adidas
track suits, wearing bras as tops, wearing the
British flag, and the bodycon dress.

Harry Potter Books
• The first Harry Potter book was
released in 1990 by the author J.K.
Rowling. The book was about 11 year
old Harry Potter who learns he is a
wizard and about him and his
journeys in his new magical school,
Hogwarts.

FRIENDS
Friends was a comedy TV show that was on from
1994 to 2004. It was a show about 6 best friends
finding a life for themselves in Manhattan. The series
shows every aspect of the people’s lives, from their
love lives to their employment and is filled with
drama.
The characters wore everyday clothes and each
character had their own unique style that went
along with their personality.

Invention of the World Wide Web
• Before the world wide web people
usually got their information on
the computer from the US
Congress Library and it was all in a
single font without photos, videos,
or sound. Because of the world
wide web, things like google,
online shopping and URLs were
introduced.
• Although not many fashion trends
were inspired by the internet
specifically, it introduced things
like online shopping and websites
where you could read about the
latest trends.

The Cosby show started in 1984 and
ended in 1992. It was about a family of
7 in their everyday life with comedian
Bill Cosby as the father. Even though
many people were against Bill Cosby
starting this show, by week two of
airing it was the number two most
watched show on air. The show was
funny but also very relatable because it
was a family that what through the
same hardships as any family would.
The show featured the most popular
fashions of the time. There was a
character for almost every age which
gave everyone someone to look up to
fashion wise.

fashion in the 90s was
• The Spice Girls
– The Spice Girls inspired many different
fashion trends but their main trademark
was the phrase “Girl Power”. They were
very big advocates of feminism and girls
having a lot of confidence. They taught
girls to look up to their mother and know
that they are equals to men. The idea of
girl power changed the way many girls saw
themselves and the way girls dressed

Gianni Versace
• Gianni Versace was born in Italy where he launched his
first clothing line in 1978. In 1989 he debuted his first
couture collection and then expanded his brand into
furniture and perfumes. He designed for Madonna,
Elton John, and Princess Diana and more fashion icons.
Versace was known for his very glamorous style.
Versace was murdered at 50 on July 15, 1997 by a
spree killer. At the time of his death, his company was
worth about $800,000,000.

• Versace was a very famous designer of the
90s. Everyone who was anyone was wearing
his designs because he was one of the most

Calvin Klein
• Calvin Klein was born on November 19, 1942,
in the Bronx, NY. He studied fashion in the city
and in 1968 he opened his company. He was
recognized for his suits and coats. He received
three Coty Awards for womenswear. His
business includes , cosmetics, clothing,
underwear, fragrances and home collections.

that were known as “heroin-chic”. Kate Moss

bones and she looked sick. In the 5 years after
the campaign heroin users went from 25,000
to 40,000. Calvin Klein also contributed in the
90s grunge trend by using neutral colors like
black and white and women layering shirts
and looking almost sloppy but still chic.
