Totally You Consulting Know your Body Shape Don’t worry, we are not looking at waist or bust sizes! These are general guides for body shape – we are all unique and there may be other variations in our shape to take into account. What you will need is the following: 1. A friend or partner to help with measurements 2. Two tape measures – one dressmaker type, the other a DIY type measure 3. Your work sheets below Step One Stand with your back to your helper with your shoes off! Measure your height with the DIY tape and record it. 1.6m or less and you are petite 1.6m – 1.65m you are average height 1.65 or above then you are tall Height.................................................. Step Two Measure your inside leg and record it as your leg length Inside leg................................................. Take this measurement away from your height and record that as your body length. Body Length.............................................. This will tell you whether you have short legs and a long body or long legs and a short body. Please record this information. I have Short legs and a long body Yes/No I have Long Legs and a short body Yes/No Step Three 1. From the side of your body measure the distance between your inside leg and your armpit – (Measurement A ..............................) 2. Again from the side of your body, measure the distance between your natural waist and your armpit - (Measurement B................................) 3. Take Measurement A from Measurement B = Measurement C (A)..................... – (B)........................ = (C)................................... 4. If B is less than C you are short waisted – if C is less than B you are long waisted. Record which one you are. I am Long Waisted Yes/No I am Short Waisted Yes/No Step Four Stand with your back to your helper and get them to measure your shoulder width. Shoulder Width................................. Then stand with your back to your partner and get them to measure your hip width Hip Width............................................ If your shoulder width is wider then you are and Inverted triangle. If your hip width is wider then you are a pear shape If they are the same (ish) you are either an hourglass (obviously small waist and put weight on everywhere) or you are a straight/softened straight (not much definition of a waist) boyish type figure.
