Michael Ahlbeck-Fetch, Chengchao Jin, Thinh Tran, Bolong Zhang Group J – Instr. Kadri Parris, GTA Hossein Qarib Lab 9: PT1 Test Readiness Review th March 11 , 2015 Executive Summary During Performance Test 1 our primary goal will be to quantify and verify the group’s motivation for using 3D printed parts to reduce weight and increase aerodynamics. Two AEV designs will be tested during the lab. The first design is composed solely of parts provided in the AEV kit, using two propellers mounted on angled arms. The propellers are in a puller configuration and are below the body of the vehicle. The second design is a composed almost entirely of 3D printed components. It maintains angled arms and two motors in a puller configuration but employs 3D printed components to produce a much smaller vehicle. After both AEV vehicles successfully complete the test run we will collect the data, import it into Matlab and compare the results via the analysis tool. As well as being the teams CAD designer, Thinh Tran will be responsible for producing a preliminary coding of the scenario to be used for testing on both vehicles. He will also be responsible for making any adjustments to the Arduino code that is necessary during performance testing. Michael Ahlbeck-Fetch will be responsible for all project documentation. This includes keeping a detailed record of the testing in the project notebook and updating the group website with new project documents. Bolong Zhang will be responsible for AEV vehicle testing, primarily collaborating with Thinh concerning any code changes (if necessary), deconstructing the first AEV design upon completion of the first test and then constructing the second AEV design in preparation for the second test. And lastly, Chengchao Jin will be responsible for pulling system data from the Arduino after each test run, producing plots via the Matlab analysis tool, and ensuring a copy of all the files make it to Michael. With clearly delineated responsibilities for each group member, Performance Test 1 will provide us with an exact answer to which AEV vehicle design we should pursue as a final concept.
