Family & Background Future Plans Personal Goals Interests & Hobbies Family & Background I have lived in Southern California my entire life, I was born in San Bernardino and lived there until I was about three years old. When we left San Bernardino we moved to Loma Linda, where I have lived now for fourteen years. My mother was originally born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, however, due to my grandfather’s position in the U.S. Airforce, they were constantly moving around. They lived in areas of the U.S. such as Oak Harbor, Washington; Phoenix, Arizona; and San Bernardino, California. In addition, to the U.S. they also lived in other countries for some years, the most notable of these being Spain. My father was born and raised in New Jersey before coming out to California. My father grew up in a strong catholic household and went to private schools most of his life. After graduating, he went on to hold many different careers including a job as a firefighter. My entire family has widely varying religious beliefs. My mom, for many years now, has been an agnostic, meaning she believes in a higher power, but thinks that it is unexplainable and therefore does not see any religion as correct. My father is catholic, although he rarely attends church anymore. My sister is currently exploring the ideologies of Buddhism but has no real set of beliefs. I have considered myself a Christian since elementary, although I was not truly active in my faith until high school. Main Menu Future Plans Over the years I have thought of many things that I would like to do after high school, some a little more feasible than others. Towards the end of my sophomore year I decided that wanted to join the military, however I did not know what branch I wanted to enlist in or what I would do once I got there. After about a year of brainstorming all the different options I decided to go for the Marines. As I looked through their options for MOS, Military Occupational Specialty, one really stuck out to me, drone piloting. Main Menu Personal Goals Main Menu Interests/Hobbies Menu Video Games Reading Awana Main Menu Video Games I have been playing video games for most of my life, I was about three years old when I first started playing. The very first game console that I owned was a Nintendo 64, and over the years I have acquired several more including an NES, Nintendo Game Cube, Wii, 3DS, PS one, PS two, and an Xbox 360. While many video games have left their impression on me, two have had a far more significant impact me. The Legend of Zelda is a video game series of adventure/action style games with puzzle like elements. The series is currently comprised of a total of eighteen games. The main story of the game follows the story of a young man, or boy depending on the game, named Link as he attempts to free the kingdom of Hyrule from the tyranny of the evil, almost god-like Gannondorf. Link will usually receive assistance from Princess Zelda who is the rightful heir to the throne. While I have played many of the games in the series, my favorite, to this day, is The Ocarina of Time. This game covers the story of Gannondorf’s betrayal and rise to power as he gains the strength of the Triforce. The Triforce splits into three parts, Gannon receives the triforce of power, Zelda gains the triforce of wisdom, and link acquires the triforce of courage. As Gannon tries to hunt them down in an attempt to gain ultimate power by taking the other two pieces, they manage to defeat him in a final clash that would decide the fate of the world. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an adventure RPG set in a middle ages style era. Skyrim’s story revolves around the return of the dragons, and more specifically, the return of Alduin, the leader of all the dragons who is nicknamed “The World Eater”. The character you play as is a chosen one known as the Dovakiin, or the Dragonborn in human tongue. The Dragonborn is a man who is born with a soul like that of a dragon, able to absorb the souls of the Dova (dragons) and learn powerful magic like abilities, called shouts, using the Dova’s language. The game also allows you decide how good a person you will be, giving you the ability to help those in need and make the area safer and more secure, or become an assassin, thief, or even a rebel soldier attempting to overthrow the government. No matter how many times you go through the game, every play through can be different, making Skyrim a game that will last for many years. Reading Awana Interests & Hobbies Reading I have always enjoyed reading, ever since I was young if I had any free time I would sit down with a book and just start reading. For me a book was simply a movie in my head, as I would continue to read everything would come to life more and more. I could clearly see the characters, I could hear them talking, see them interacting with each other. It was never boring for me to just sit down with a book and read for two, three, or even as much as seven hours straight. Two of my favorite book series of all time are Eragon and Pendragon. The Eragon series is about a young man, from whom the series gets its name, who finds a mysterious crystal in the forest. That crystal turns out to be a dragon egg, which hatches after it has chosen him as its companion. Eragon then leaves on a quest with his newly named dragon, Saphira, to free the land of alagaesia from the evil king Galbatorix and his dragon Shruikan. The Pendragon series is about a fourteen year old boy who discovers he is a special being called a traveler, who, by using special gates called flumes, are able to travel between different worlds. Bobby Pendragon is task with finding and defeating the evil Saint Dane who is trying to send the worlds into chaos so he can rise and take control. Video Games Awana Interests & Hobbies Awana Awana is a church based youth group focused on keeping children in the word of God. The name Awana is an acronym that stands for “approved workman are not ashamed” which comes from 2 timothy 2:15, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” In Awana, kids are asked to memorize bible verses so that the verses may stay with the child for the rest of his/her life and be applied to everyday life. Awana covers kids from as young as 3 years old all the way through high school. As a high school Awana member, I serve as a student leader for the younger clubs on Sunday nights. Currently I have served one year as a leader for cubbies, 3-4 years olds; one year in sparkies, kindergarten through second grade; and currently am serving in my second year as a leader for T&T, third through fifth grade. Being a leader has been a wonderful experience, getting to watch the children mature and grow closer to Christ is something that’s hard to describe. I plan on continuing as a leader for as long as I can. Awana for the high school group is every Monday night. Journey, as it is called, is a time for friends to come together and learn about Christ. A regular night at Awana is usually comprised of a handbook time where we do a sort of mini study on a section of a book in the bible, our main study this year is Romans; lesson time which covers the topic of that week’s handbook section; and a game time that allows us to wind down after a long day. However Mondays are not the only day that our group is active, a large majority of the group serves as student leaders on Sunday nights in several of the different clubs, we work throughout the year at several different fundraisers to help raise money so we can go to Awana camp cheaper, and we also participate in the local Bible quiz, which covers our main study for that year, and games where we compete against other churches in a set of events set by the games committee.
