Teaching Activities/Classwork: DO NOW: Students will use Cornell notes to quiz his/her partner on the background information for Romeo and Juliet. -Students will complete quiz. -Student will begin a paired-reading on Act I scene i. -Students will be given post-its and complete a “talking to the text” activity using post-it. -As students read Act I; scene ii, students will respond to multiple discussion questions in UPPER DARBY HIGH SCHOOL LESSON PLAN DEPARTMENT: English CLASS/SUBJECT: Academic English/Honors English TUESDAY Today’s Objective: The Learner Will: - Analyze events in text and form valid predictions - Incorporate elements of soliloquy, aside, monologue, stage directions, and dialogue in writing. -Compare and contrast character traits WEDNESDAY Today’s Objective: The Learner Will: - Identify dramatic irony in film. - Use elements of an archetype - Incorporate tragic flaws into writing. - Compare the differences between the play and the film version of Romeo and Juliet Teaching Activities/Classwork: DO NOW: Students will analyze ending of scene ii and predict further events for scene iii. - Students will be given a classic fairy tale and create it into a play, incorporating theatrical elements into the play. - Students, in groups, will write play onto a poster. - Each group will then practice performing his/her poster to the class. - Students will begin reading Act I; scene iii; students will keep a chart that compares and Teaching Activities/Classwork: Do Now: Students will review people who are considered “heroes” in today’s society. Students will pick one hero and begin writing a list of his/her good characteristics as well as flaws. - Students will create a story that uses an archetype: his/her hero will go on a quest and story will also contain a symbol. Students will be aided with prompts for this timed writing activity. -Students will pair-share THURSDAY Today’s Objective: The Learner Will: - Incorporate stage directions, mood, and actions to text. - Perform scene using theatrical elements in group. - Analyze characters and events in Act I. - Contribute comparisons of film and play and ideas to group discussion. Teaching Activities/Classwork: Do Now: Arrange events onto a timeline from scene v. - Students will view remainder of Act I from film, filling in answers to remaining discussion questions. -Students will complete short “talking chips” activity comparing the play to the movie. - Students will pick scene of his/her choice. Each student will be responsible within his/her group to complete prompt book FRIDAY Today’s Objective: The Learner Will: -Review and assess understanding of theatrical elements and plot of Act I. - Make predictions about upcoming events in Act II. - Connect self with text.
