Overview – Michigan Learns Online This grant addresses the need to expand online instruction throughout the State of Michigan, specifically online courses and professional development for teachers and administrators. Goals Development and management of a content management system (portal) which will house learning resources for educators and students. Identification/delivery of highly requested student courses/support. Professional development necessary to ensure that teachers and administrators have the skills necessary to prepare students for success in the 21st century. Status Surveyed administrators, counselors and teachers across the State in regards to online learning via the North American Council for Online Learning (NACOL) Status The survey revealed that the overall need was in Algebra I Status Conducted Teaching and Learning Online professional development to the following REMCs: REMC 1 REMC 2 Central REMC 2 North REMC 2 South REMC 3 REMC 4 REMC 5 REMC 6 REMC 7 REMC 8 REMC 9 REMC 11 REMC 12 East 2 sessions REMC 12 West 2 sessions REMC 13 2 sessions REMC 14 Genesee 2 sessions REMC 14 Shiawassee REMC 15 REMC 16 2 sessions REMC 17 REMC 18 Macomb REMC 19 West REMC 19 East REMC 20 REMC 21 REMC 22 Status Over 300 teachers trained in the Teaching and Learning Online professional development Purchased Teaching and Learning Online course content Purchased Algebra I Credit Recovery course from Aventa Learning LuAnn Murray, GISD and Jim Ashmore (Oakland consultant) aligned the course content to meet Michigan standards Status Purchased Algebra I Intervention course from Epic Learning Seventeen (17) teachers across the state will be trained to use the Algebra I Intervention course Fall 2009 Creating, implementing and populating Michigan Online Portal for administrators, counselors, teachers, and students to access information about online learning Supporting already established MI Online Resources for Educators Portal Status The Michigan Portal Committee has developed the following plan to move forward. The following is listed in priority order with the first item the top priority. Survey REMC Directors to see what content they have - Have an all call to the REMC DIR for specific documents that they have. Have a process for sending in Links Complete submission form for sending in courses and materials Status Develop a process for a clearinghouse reviewing sharing and posting/distributing courses (teacher sharing a course) Collect sites that we can link to. Review the site to see if it is what we need it to be.
