CURRICULUM VITAE
PROFESSOR OLUSOLA AYENI, Msc. Ph.d
Dr. Olusola Ayeni holds a Bachelor's degree in Statistics from the University of Ibadan and
advanced degrees in Medical Statistics from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical
Medicine of the University of London.
He was an academic staff of the University of Ibadan from 1969 until October 1985, serving as
Professor of Medical Statistics during the last five years of his service. He took voluntary early
retirement in October 1985 to join the World Health Organization's Special Programme of
Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (WHO/HRP). At the
WHO/HRP he was in-charge of the Clinical Trials and Informatics Support Team that provided
statistical and data processing support to all the Programme's international multicentre research
and research capability strengthening activities.
He retired from the WHO in June 2004. In July 2004 he returned to the University of Ibadan as a
visiting professor in the then department of Epidemiology, Medical Statistics and Environmental
Health (EMSEH) to participate in the development of its postgraduate program.
Dr. Ayeni is an applied medical statistician and demographer with expertise in study design
including protocol development, data management and statistical methods. He has significant
experience in organizing research capability strengthening activities in developing countries in
the areas of research methodology, biostatistics and data management, including curriculum
design and didactic teaching.
He has authored or co-authored over 100 articles, background papers, book and book chapters in
areas such as sources and evaluation of health statistics, estimation of health indices and
population parameters, development of health statistics education and design and analysis of
studies on various aspects of reproductive health such as contraceptive safety and efficacy and
breast-feeding.
