 Understand how to conjugate regular “er” verbs into the past tense,
specifically “aller”
 Be able to pick the right auxiliary based on the chosen verb
 Be able to pronounce all forms of the verb “aller” in the past tense, as
well as the chosen auxiliary
Aller
“to go”
Passé Composé (auxiliaire être)
Passe Compose is a compound conjugation, meaning it has two parts. The two parts we
have to consider are the auxiliary verb, and the past participle.
In this case, the past participle is « aller », and the past participle is where we pick avoir
or être
*présent tense of the auxiliary verb (être ou avoir)
*past participle
en genre et en nombre *the past participle must agree with the subject
On the board :

In each group, the students will have to pick the verb that is conjugated using the
« auxiliaire être » and then conjgate them into the past tense. We will proceed to share
them with the class, that way all the students will get to see four different verbs
conjegated in the past tense. For a bonus they can « accorde » the « participe passe » to
the subject.
Order of questions for activity:
1. What verb am I conjugating?
2. What auxiliary am I going to have to use? Etre or Avoir?
3. Since it’s être, we need to use an auxiliary that represents the subject
Order of Lesson :
1. Introduce passe compose
-used to speak about the past
-for example : yesterday i played soccer
2. More complex because it is a compound conjugation, meaning we need
two parts
a)subject
b)auxiliary
c)past paticiple
3. Introduce « aller » or « to go »
-For example, I went to the park
-In french it would be : « Je suis allé au parc »
4. Now, let’s write out our subjects, they are the same as what we have
learned before
5. Because this is a DR MRS VANDERTRAMP word, we have to use the
« être » auxiliary.
-Remember the house? Who can give some examples?
6. So we have to put the auxiliary for each subject, which is the présent of
être that we have already learnt
7. Now we have to deal with the allé part
-all regular er verbs will conjugate the same way…
-If its « danser » it would be « danse » , manger would be « mange »
8. SO, we will only be doing the ones that use the être auxiliary
9. Have the students repeat this and then substitute entrer for aller to show
the process.
