By Jonathan Xu Santiago had had the same dream for the second time, it was when he went to Egypt and started digging near the pyramids but suddenly it ended. After the next few days he went to see a woman that most people called gypsies, he would ask her to interpret his dream. He had heard that they trick people for money and make up interpretations, but he didn’t care so he went anyway. When he got to the Gypsy’s house he told her his dream and she said that he would go to Egypt and find a great treasure, the boy was extremely annoyed by the lady because that is what basically happened in his dream! The next day he meets a king who wants to help him and give him two stones, Urim & Thummim. He tells him to discover omens and follow them. The next day the boy wants to decide if he should go or stay with sheep. After a few days, Santiago decided to follow his dream and find the great treasure; he sold all of his sheep and bought a ticket to sail to Egypt. When Santiago got to Egypt he was ablaze, the market was being overwhelmed by customers in the blazing sun. He found a bar and asked the waiter for some wine, but the waiter said it was illegal in the country so he had tea instead. He thought: I rather had wine than tea. Next to him, there was another boy who started to speak to him in Spanish even though he was from Africa. They quickly became friends, and started to walk through the market. At one place, he had seen the most beautiful sword he had ever seen. It was highly decorated and sparkling new. He promised himself that he would bye himself that sword when he came back. He asked the man how much the sword was, but he suddenly realized that he had been distracted for a few moments… Finally, he summoned the courage to look around and found that his friend had deserted him…with his money. He became disappointed and sad so he thought; now I have to start all over again. … After wondering the country he came to a hill where there was a crystal shop and asked the man if he could work for him, and the man said “yes.” The boy helped the merchant a lot more than he expected and in time the boy had already worked for the merchant for a year. When he had enough money he was going to go home to become shepherd again. One morning when he was packing up his two stones Urim & Thummim fell out and he remembered exactly why he was there. He made a decision that he was going to continue his dream and find the treasure. Since the boy now had money again, he paid the man in charge of a caravan and got ready for the long trip to the pyramids. There was an English man who was in search of an Alchemist, he wanted to learn all the languages, and he wanted to learn how to turn lead into gold. He took out a book and started to read. Santiago had nothing to do so he took out Urim & Thummim and started playing with them. When the English man saw them he said “Urim & Thummim.” The boy quickly hid them back into pocket, the English man asked: “where did you get those”? “I met a king that took them off his golden chest plate. “There are actually millions of them under the earth.” Soon they had to leave for the caravan and they started to travel. . When they finally got to their destination, the English man started to look for the Alchemist that he had heard about. Santiago tried to help him but at the end of the day they still didn’t find him. After a few days they had found them and the English man listened and tried experiments. Santiago was walking and saw a young woman and asked her “what’s your name”? “Fatima.” They asked her if they knew if there was an Alchemist and she said yes. Later the Santiago told Fatima that he loved her and he wanted her to be his wife. Soon, the boy went to see the alchemist himself, and the Alchemist agreed to help him. Through the desert he had encountered other people that hated him or didn’t think anything about him. OH MY GOD!!!! But finally he made it to the Pyramids, he started digging but never found anything. Soon some people found him and asked him what he was hiding, since he wasn’t hiding anything they started to beat him. Finally he told them that he was searching for a treasure and he had come here. The man said that he had a dream here that he should go to an old church in Spain and I would find my treasure. The boy laughed because he knew where his treasure was. In the old church.
