OLHS Challenge Test Information Challenge tests will be administered during the week of March 11th at OLHS beginning at 4:00pm (except for Honors Exploratory Art and dance auditions). Each test will be approximately 45 minutes to one hour in length. A student may take only one test per day. A student who wishes to take more than one challenge test will need to take them on separate days. To register for one or more challenge tests, please go to http://tinyurl.com/OLu-Challenge-Test-Info. An emailed confirmation will be sent prior to the testing date. On the day of the test, the student should go to the appropriate room (see below) with two #2 pencils. Results will be mailed home prior to Freshmen Registration Day. (Note: Math challenge/diagnostic tests will be administered in May. See reverse for more information.) Honors Ancient History – Freshmen at OLHS have a unique opportunity to be on the AP track in Social Studies by taking this Honors class as a 9th grade student and then (with successful completion), take part in the (AP) World History class as a sophomore. This exam will assess students’ critical thinking skills, their ability to analyze historical texts, and their general knowledge of history. Students will be expected to write two essays. The topics for the essays will be given to the students on the day of testing. The essays are expected to be one to two paragraphs in length. These will be used to gauge students’ writing ability. It is designed for the student with a high level of interest or previous experience in art. Students will qualify for Honors Exploratory Art based on a drawing assignment. Students testing are asked to bring a small selection of their best artwork, if they have it, to show the instructor on the testing day. Regular English 1 Challenge Honors English 1– If your student’s placement test results showed Eng 1 Chal Honors 1 it means that he/she scored within a satisfactory range to potentially qualify for Honors English 1. If the challenge test is successful, your student may be placed in an honors English 1 class. For questions only, contact Mrs. Tanya Grasz, the Science Department Chairperson: tanya.grasz@lhsoc.org Challenge Test for Science: Room 203, Tuesday, March 12th, Wednesday, March 13th or Thursday, March 14th Spanish/Foreign Language Challenge Test - This test is for any incoming freshman that has had a significant amount of Spanish (or French, German, or Latin) that would equal a year or more of a high school level course, or who has spoken the language at home. The Spanish placement test includes multiple choice questions, true/false and matching, and may require a writing sample. Challenge tests in French, German or Latin are similar, but may involve a writing sample. If they successfully pass the diagnostic test, they will be placed into Honors Geometry. (Please register for one of the dates listed below.) If your student’s placement test results showed Honors Geo, your student does not need to take an additional test.
