Running head: NAME OF PAPER 1 Name of Paper Student Name Ohio Christian University Author Note This paper was prepared for Name of Course, taught by Professor Alexander Dolin Date NAME OF PAPER 2 Name of Paper Notice also the first line of the document is the title of paper again. Notice that each paragraph has a one half (.5) inch indention. Simply go to Home tab and click on Paragraph. Inside the pop-up there is "special indention section." In the drop-down click "first line" and in the value line add .5. Notice that he first line of paper starts with the full title of the Paper Centered and not bold, the same title seen on the Title Page. Notice the running head on the title page and on all other pages. Only on the title page does the words "running head" appear. Notice page numbers in upper-right corner. Go to Insert tab, there is a drop down menu for page numbers on right side, do this before Running head. Click inside the title page header on the design tab, a clickable option is "First Page is different" select this to add "running head" to Title page only. Ruth was an extraordinary woman of God and she was the perfect example of what every woman of God “should want to emulate” (Friedeman, 2009, p. 115). This was a very turbulent time between Israel and Moab because the Moabites and Israelites despised one another for many reasons (Ruth 1:1, NIV). Moab’s king rebelliously oppressed Israel, Moabite women intentionally enticed and seduced Israelite men, and the Moabites worshiped a God called “Chemosh” in which the Israelites vehemently disapproved of (MacArthur, 2005, pp. 70-71). Notice the in-text citations. They include: (author, date, page number). Punctuation goes after the citation. Also for the Bible, you see The Bible location followed by translation. This is all that is really needed for Bible texts. The Bible does not even need to show up in the Reference Page. This student did the research, put the idea in her own words and then cited where she got her ideas from. This is a model for what I am looking for in APA formatting. NAME OF PAPER 3 References Friedeman, M., & Friedeman Ausley, L. (2009). Life changing Bible study. Wilmore, KY: Francis Asbury Press. Gruen, D. (Ed.). (1998). Who’s who in the Bible. Lincolnwood, IL: Publications International, Ltd. MacArthur, J. (2005). Twelve extraordinary women. Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson. Notice that the Reference page is on its own page separate from rest of the document and that the sources are in alphabetical order all of these have a hanging indention which is different from the rest of the paper. Go to the home tab, click on paragraph and the hanging indention is in a drop down menu. Notice "References" is centered and at the top of the page alone, not bold. Notice for a basic book in APA: Author, A. A. (Year of publication). Title of work: Capitalize first letter and pronouns only-same for subtitle (all in italics.) Location: Publisher. NAME OF PAPER 4 Bonus feature (Block Quote): In APA, if the direct (word-for-word) quotation has more than 40 words,(which is discouraged) it should use a block quotation. Begin the quotation on a new line and indent a half-inch from the left margin. Double-space the entire quotation, and at the end of the quotation, provide citation information after the final punctuation mark. Learn how to do a block quote: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/24/ Here is a student example: Blah, blah, blah ....a full paragraph (of at least 5 sentences) of text that is logically building an argument.....God allowed the Israelites to be defeated and pillaged by raiders and no longer went before them. After a while they began to groan about their suffering, so the Lord took pity on them and provided them with judges in the hope that the Israelites would turn back to God. According to Arnold & Beyer (2008), “These ‘judges’ were not simply legal authorities as the English word implies. They were charismatic military leaders whom God raised up and empowered for specific tasks of deliverance. The office implied governing in a broad sense. These twelve judges were local or national heroes who became military rulers endowed by God’s Spirit to lead the nation into victory against a particular enemy nation” (p. 182-183). Notice this student properly performed an in-text citation as he included the authors names' the year and page number. He also put quotations around the entire direct quote, then he formatted it with an extra half inch indention. Do realize that a paper full of block quotes is not a good paper, it can still be considered plagiarism. A good paper puts ideas in your own words. Also, it is much better to over-cite than to not cite where you got information. OCU is really trying to keep a tight wrap on plagiarism. If information is not common knowledge, it needs a NAME OF PAPER 5 citation! If it is specific information, it needs a citation! Please, please, please cite your information! It is better to over-cite than not cite at all! Here is my simple fail-proof system for getting good grades and avoiding plagiarism: 1. Do your research. 2. Put the idea in your own words. 3.
