Bill Gates - Back on top of the world with US$ 68 Bn fortune USA ranks #1 on the Global Rich List with 495 billionaires. The total net worth of US billionaires is a massive US$2.2trillion. Bill Gates’s fortune rose US$14 Bn making him the richest man on the planet with US$68 Bn. Alice Walton, 65, with a networth of US 32.5 Bn, of Walmart is the richest American woman Snapchat Co-founders Evan Spiegel, 23, and Bobby Murphy, 25, steal title of world’s youngest billionaires away from Mark Zuckerberg (30) of Facebook (25 February 2014, Beijing, China) Hurun Report today released the Hurun Global Rich List 2014, a ranking of the US dollar billionaires currently found in the world. Wealth calculations are a snapshot of 17 January 2014. These are the notes on billionaires from US and should be used in context with the Hurun Global Rich List 2014. For any discrepancies in these notes with the Global Rich List, the Global Rich List should prevail. For the compilation of the USA richlist, Hurun report has considered billionaires who have USA as country of residence, upbringing or origin USA ranks #1 on the Global Rich List with 495 billionaires cumulating a net worth of US$2.2trillion. The average net worth of USA’s richest is US$5Bn, one billion above the global average. The preferred sectors are TMT, Investments and Retail with 116, 108 and 57 billionaires respectively of which the sector that rewarded its investors the most was TMT which added an average 24% to their wealth. The average age of the USA’s billionaires is 67, three years older than the average age of the global billionaires. It is interesting to note that out of USA’s 495 billionaires, 359 (73%) are self made. At 59, Bill Gates shot back to number one position, after a gap of three years, with a fortune of US$68 Bn, up US$14 Bn from the past year, mainly on the back of strong gains on diversified investments. Gates stepped down as chairman of Microsoft this year, leaving him more time for his philanthropic activities.Warren Buffett, 84 continues to be in the second position for the second year running, growing his wealth 10% to US$64 Bn. Larry Ellison, 70, saw his wealth increase by US$5Bn, thanks to a 25% gain in Oracle’s stocks making him the third richest person in US. The bulk of his fortune comes from his 23% stake in Oracle. There are 56 women in the US rich list. Alice Walton of Walmart is the richest woman in US with a net worth of 32.5 Bn. Others of the Walton family appear on the list including Jim Walton, Christy Walton & Christy Walton. Were the Walton family’s wealth to be combined they would be the richest family in the world. 23-year-old and 25-year-old Snapchat founders Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy of Snapchat are the youngest billionaires in the US as well as the world. Facebook and Google both offered in excess of US$ 3Bn to buyout the photo messaging application that allows users to set a time limit on how long recipients can view images. At 99, Rockefeller family patriarch David Rockefeller Sr is the oldest billionare in the world with a net worth of US$2.9 Bn. He is the grandson of Standard oil founder John Rockefeller Sr. There are 73 notable newcomers to the list led by Elaine Marshall & Family of Koch Industries with a net worth of US$ 11.5 Bn (Rank 99). Newest entrants to the list are Whatsapp co-founders Jan Koum (US$ 8.5 Bn, Rank 146) & Brian Acton(US$3.8Bn, rank 437). Facebook’s acquisition of messaging services application for US$19Bn marked the entry of the entrepreneurs in the list of USA’s Richest. On a whole, the year has been a good one for the TMT sector with tech giants registering marked increases in stock prices. Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook who saw his wealth increase 82% makes him the 18th richest man in the world. With a net worth of US$31 Bn, the 30 year old king of social network is the youngest in the top 20. Facebook stocks have doubled since March 2013. The biggest gainer among USA’s Billionaires is Elon Musk whose stake in Tesla Motors tripled in value over the past year. Tesla motors stock is up 300% since last march. New York is officially the ‘Billionaire Capital of the World’ with 84 of Hurun’s Billionaires living in the Big Apple, up from 70 last year. The second most billionaire populated city of the USA is San Francisco followed by Los Angeles. Of the 495 Billionaires on the US rich list, 46 Billionaires were of non US origin.. German & Indian origin entrepreneurs operating in the US seem to be the most successful - 5 billionaires each, with Indian origin billionaires like Google investor & board member Kavitark Ram Shriram (US$2.2 Bn, Rank 853) and Romesh T Wadhwani (US$2.5 Bn Rank 717), founder and chairman of technology focused private equity firm Symphony Technology Group. German origin billionaires include Andreas Bechtolsheim (US$ 2.8 Bn, Rank 623) founder of Sun Microsystems & real estate developer Zygi Wilf (US$ 1.5 Bn, Rank 1282) of Garden Commercial Properties. Zygi Wilf owns NFL sports team Minnesota Vikings. The wealthiest billionaire of non-US origin is Russian born Google Co-founder Sergey Brin. With a networth of US$30 Bn, Hurun Global rich List values him as the 20th richest man on the planet. There are 42 billionaires on the list who were brought up outside the US. The most number of immigrant billionaires were from the Chinese Taipei at 5, led by John Tu (US$4.1 Bn, Rank 400) of Flash Memory manufacturer Kingston Technology.
