Methods of Access
IP Authentication: Institutional subscribers submit their network IP ranges to McGraw-Hill
during subscription setup. These ranges are verified and loaded into the system, and all users
coming from inside the range are automatically provided seamless access.
Referrer URL/Domain: Institutional subscribers can place registered links to AccessEngineering
behind their secure login (e.g., a library site that has already validated a student). The
institution must register the domain and URLs where the links are placed with McGraw-Hill
during subscription setup. These links will then seamlessly log the user into AccessEngineering
every time they are clicked, whether on-site or remotely.
EZproxy: Remote access to AccessEngineering via EZproxy requires EZproxy 2.4c GA (2004-0321) or later combined with this database definition:
T: AccessEngineering
U: http://accessengineeringlibrary.com/
D: accessengineeringlibrary.com
D: books.mcgraw-hill.com
Methods of Access (cont’d)
Athens Authentication: If you have an Athens Organization ID that you would like to register,
please email onlinecustomer_service@mcgraw-hill.com.
Username/Password: The welcome email you received at the beginning of your subscription
contains the username and password you can use to access the site, whether on-site or
remotely. If you are unable to locate this email, please email onlinecustomer_service@mcgrawhill.com and ask them for your AccessEngineering username and password.

ICOLC Usage Reports: Explanation Of Terms
Number Of Sessions: The total number of unique sessions. Where users have cookies enabled,
a session is an uninterrupted period of use of a site; it does not equal the number of unique
users since a given person can have multiple sessions. A user-session will be terminated if
there is more than fifteen minutes of inactivity.
Total Session Time (hh:mm): The total time of all sessions added together.
Average Session Time: The total session time divided by the number of sessions.
Average Pages Per Session: The number of web pages requested divided by the number of
sessions.
Full Content Units Requested: The number of entries viewed. For long articles split into
sections, each section counts as a separate “content unit”.
Web Pages Requested: The number of HTML pages accessed.
Hits: The number of files served, i.e., counts all the images and other files on a page, plus all
html pages.
ICOLC Usage Reports: Explanation Of Terms (cont’d)
Queries (Searches): The number of times a search request is submitted to the server. Any
subsequent activity to review or browse among the records retrieved, or to view an entry from
the list, is not recorded as an additional search.
Full-Content Units Reached From Browse: The number of entries reached from the browse
menu.
Turnaways: If a subscription is limited by concurrency, the number of turnaways will indicate
how often the concurrency limit has been exceeded and users barred from the product.
