PhD Project
“A COMPREHENSIVE INVESTIGATION OF SOLID AERO SOLS USING XRAY POWDER DIFFRACTION (XRPD) AND ATOMIC ABSORPTION
SECTROPHOTOMETRY (AAS) TECHNIQUES”
At Department Of Physics, University Of Punjab, Lahore, (Pakistan)
Supervised by:
Professor Dr. Khadim Husain(Retd), Centre for High Energy Physics,
Punjab university, Lahore, PAKISTAN
Objectives: This project will provide database information related to
solid aerosols and their health hazards. The results obtained can be
utilized as development of cost effective and practical strategies for
the betterment of humanity.
Significance Of PhD Project
Significant amounts of suspended solid aero sols act as air
pollutants which are agent for microphysical process in the
environment, thus becoming health hazard to man. These not only
cause serious type of ailments / diseases but also lead to
tremendous economic loss. Attempts have been made to study the
qualitative and quantitative aspects of solid aero sols and their
health hazard effects along with their contributions in micro
physical processes (Alteration in conductivity, reduction in light
intensity, receptivity and precipitation mechanism) physio chemical
,physio mechanical aspects of solid aerosols attached with
horizontal and vertical profiled spatial distributions were also
disscussed. Some challenges faced by us during this project were
also identified and their solutions were also suggested..This study
will definitely serve the purpose of role model and can be extended
for other major cities of PAKISTAN&THE MODERN WORLD
Utility Of PhD Project
Participating in the preparation, implementation
and evaluation of environmental monitoring
system programs (Continues Emission
,Monitoring and environment Ambient Air
Monitoring).,Work rements campaigns for
industrial cum transportation facilities
assessment (TSP, PM10, i,Globalwarming
&Global cooling
Utility Of PhD Project
Ambient air measurements campaigns and air quality
assessment. Follow up the implementation of policies and
plans of the various environmental activities. Participated
in the Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS)
Analysis of data and Preparation of reports in the form of
thesis from the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System
(CEMS) attached with IAB,NIBGE,PINUM,EPD
etcParticipated in the preparation of the first edition of the
two guidelines of Continuous Emission Monitoring System
CEMS) and connection System which connects CEMS
EPD,.Provide guidelines for the management of the
Environmental aspects to atmospheric&Environmenta
physics related projects;-
Utility Of PhD Project
Identify and develop proper mitigation measures and methods to be
Implemented for reduction of the environmental impact based on
project EIA documentation;- Provide support for the development
and improvement of the environmental management system in
normal and upset conditions;- Update and spread the laws
knowledge related to the environment both for site/technical
devises and specific environmental subjects;- Ensure compilation of
SSA project/site environmental performance data and verify curacy
of Already prepared environmental performance reports.Conduct
monitoring and bench marking analysis on the emissions and
concentrations of air and noise pollutants and greenhouse gases
(GHG) in the Atmosphere of Faisalabad in order to provide reliable
data that support in establishing guidelines, standards and policies
for reducing emissions and reduce noise and climate change.

M.Phil Project
August 1997DO .Now it is very well established fact that
Exposure to radon, thoron and its progeny can induce a
range of cellular and molecular cytogenetic effects both in
vitro and in vivo. Experimental data suggest that exposure
to radon; thoron and its progeny beyond TLVs can represent
a significant public health risk. The Area Selected for this
study was Kirana Hills. The Kirana Hills outcrop in the
Punjab plains and represent remnants of the widespread
Precambrian gneous activity within the Kirana-Malani basin
of NE Gondwana. These volcanics comprise mainly of mafic
and felsic rocks belonging to the tholeiitic basalt-rhyolite
magma association with intercalated meta-sediments.
M.Phil Project
In This project an attempt has been made to check the presence of any
potential hazard of uranium and thorium based minerals on human
health of the people living in and around Kirana Hills dividing the
area in to three parts on the basis of sociological survey conducted
for this purpose using XRPD &SSNDTs. The study showed the
presence of 1.48,0.58,1.33&1.14,0.87,0.98 radio activity along
with3.52,2.98,1,65 Radium Equivalent Concentration with internal
&external health indices as 0.48,0,25,0.40&0.35,0.16,0.29
respectively . The origin of the said radioactivity was found to be
uranium &thorium based minerals confirmed through radiography.
Positive co relationship between radioactivity and health hazards
was also confirmed .The study may be used as model for local and
global such type of studies.
