Objective: Understand how/why changes in temperature, air pressure, and direct sunlight interact to bring about different types of weather. (Sc.8.4)
Project: Personify a high pressure air mass, low pressure air mass, warm front, cold front, or stationary front. Give it a name and a personality. Consider: why, scientifically, is your air mass behaving or feeling a certain way? Be creative, but remember to keep science as inspiration.
1.) Create a backstory for your air mass. (Be creative, but grounded in science.)
2.) Think about how your air mass interacts with other air masses . How does it affect people? Does this air mass bring fair weather or chaotic weather?
3.) Create a storyline . Use this storyline to create a comic book . Is your air sad because it’s a low pressure system that keeps getting pushed around? Is your air mass the high pressure system the saves the day from evil rain and snow? Those are just two examples.
4.) Fashion your comic book.
Recall that comic books are not just one big paragraph. They have words, dialogue, and pictures.
5.) Ultimately, your comic book must meet ALL of the following qualifications: a.
i.
At least one of these drawings must be a correctly
LABELLED MODEL of what happens when your character interacts with another air mass. ii.
One other drawing must show the LABELLED use of a tool that meteorologists use to collect weather data. iii.
Drawings must be in color. iv.
No rips or spills. v.
It is okay if you need more than one sheet of paper.
Everyone will be given two. If you use the extra sheet, please don’t staple it to the bottom. Staple it as an actual comic book.
